With anti lock breaks you can just stomp on the break even in bad weather. They were invented exactly so you can break as hard as you can. The mechanics of the anti-lock breaking system (ABS) will allow you to maintain as much control as possible, even during panic breaking in the rain. So if in danger, stomp on the break AND steer away from danger.

A strange coincidence occurs during the Lovin' Spoonful discussion. Mitch parodies the Monkees theme song by singing "Hey, hey, we're the Spoonful". The creators of the Monkees TV show originally intended to hire the Lovin' Spoonful to play the Monkees. They instead ended up hiring the four guys we now know as the Monkees as actors. There is no way Mitch knew that. Spooky stuff.
