[PATRONS] Our story is really heating up, as the Grand Hetman finally reaches the top of the greasy pole (Pole?)

"Your time has come and you know what I mean. You know that I despise any man who could have become something powerful and failed. If events crush him the way Hamlet and Macbeth were overwhelmed, alright. Or if evil forces bring him down the way Othello fell, alright again. But to fail because of ignorance."

Marie sought to spur her husband forward. Having never truly coveted the Polish Crown, it would be up to his more ambitious wife to properly seek it, thus throwing Jan Sobieski into the whirlwind of political intrigue and passion, when he would have much rather continued pressing the attack against the Turks. Fate, it seemed, had other plans, and in Episode 9 of our Jan Sobieski biography we reveal how it was that this immensely successful but humble man managed to find himself King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania at precisely the right time, in September 1683.
