I love playing disc golf. I also love aerodynamics, injection molding... nature all the things. Disc golf has it all! I think you'll really enjoy this behind the scenes look at how MVP Disc Sports makes their Disc Golf Discs up in Michigan. Enjoy! The coolest part about this is that Brad and Chad reached out to sponsor because they enjoy Smarter Every Day, and they didn't ask me to say anything in particular....which is so cool of them. They said "what would you like to explore about Disc Golf?"... and of course I said "HOW THE DISCS ARE MADE!". I thought is was an AWESOME opportunity and I hope you enjoy it!

Here's the link to the video!

Thank you so much for being a Patron of Smarter Every Day. It's a huge deal!

I have about 55+ discs. Only a few of those being MVP. Been waiting for a video on disc golf for a while now since you mentioned it during NDQ!

Yeah I don’t wanna download 38GB 😭 😂. I edited a video in Final Cut this week. 120GB timeline.

Have a good evening and thanks for all you have done over the years. I have a poster for "Knowledge is not Understanding" and I continue to think about that _all the time_. God bless!

George Reese

Let’s go Destin. I got a class with Coston. Was super excited to talk about you with him when I found out he worked with you.

Samuel merrill

I have been playing disc golf for just over a year! Soo excited for this!!

Randy Thomson

Wow -- I got back into disc golf a few months ago after many many years away, so this is an unexpectedly serendipitous pairing -- a real "you got chocolate in my peanut butter" moment. I'm really looking forward to your engineering take on this!

Ask Coston how we first got to know each other. I first started talking to him in one of the most interesting ways I've ever met anyone. Roll Tide btw.

John Kennedy

Lamar and turbulent flow cameos. Great video!

Duke Lakewood

Excellent video. Loved the process. MKBHD plays and I remember many years ago hearing about Frisbee Golf.

Alexander JB

This awesome! I LOVE DISC GOLF!

sue capps

How do you get to the second channel

Justin Yoder

This is so cool! I just got into disc golf about a year ago and MVP is my favorite disc manufacturer, I probably have 15 of their discs. I've been watching your videos for over ten years so this is a really neat mashup of world's for me

chromicacid

@31:20 Cameramen in the water doing anything they can to get the shot :)

sue capps

Thanks Christopher

Edward Burton

Off topic... I attended a class with the ATF, yeah that ATF, and in the presentation was a picture from your silencer video a few years back. The channel name WAS on the picture.

Shane Dugas

Another great production, Destin. Factory walkthroughs are always a favorite of mine. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, the more technical the better. Seeing current technology is cool but getting insight on the programmatic and logical sequencing of the individual systems in the production line is just phenomenal. As someone who trains people on complex mechanical systems, I greatly appreciate the time and energy spent making the animations. And they're so well done, wow.

Patrick Chung

As an avid disc golfer and Destin fan, this clash of worlds is unexpected and amazing.

math doc ron

you've already done something with the Rocket City Trash Pandas, you have to do something with Trash Panda Disc Golf. you should talk to them about their recycling program and how their discs are all fully recycled and fully recyclable. also, i would totally buy a Smarter Every Day Trash Panda Inner Core to go with my Smarter Every Day Rocket City Trash Pandas baseball.

William Strachan

...well, I take this as a hint. I live near a disc golf course (I pass it on my commute), I have dabbled with it a few times (the only discs I have "bought" are ones that escaped into spiky bushes and suchlike.) and I guess the only thing stopping me from buying a Smarter Only Day disc is that I don't see them for sale yet. I'll get started on the disc golf "proper" and then when I don't lose so many discs maybe there'll be a channel-branded disc ;)

Bret Mishler

Was really hoping for a Smarter Every Day collab! Hope they can print 100 or so for us to buy

Stephen Mills

Definitely, the physics of the disc, especially how they design drivers vs putters, understable vs overstable, etc. That would be awesome. How about a deep dive into discs, like the helicopters and submarines?

Daniel Ryan

I took to disc golf this year, so I was so happy to see you cover the making of the discs! I would love a video on the physics of how they make discs fly differently! So curious what makes a disc over or under stable, as well as how you quantify the speed/glide/turn/fade!

Tobin Smit

Hey Destin. Love the video! The manufacturing series is awesome. My girlfriend and I sit down and watch your videos while we have dinner when they come out :) I’ve watched many manufacturing videos but I love how you put such a spotlight on the people. Long time watcher, first time commenter. Thanks, Tobin

Adam Mencarini

What a great video! As a pandemic era disc golf enthusiast, seeing behind the scenes at MVP is a treat, since their overmold process is a bit legendary in the scene. Someone above mentioned it, but I'll echo that getting in touch with Jesse at Trash Panda Disc Golf would be a great Collab too - and don't you want an excuse to visit Denver?

Matt Larson

I like the glow in the dark pellets. They look like some kind of radioactive pellets!

Abraham Miranda

Loved the video and have a question: Why is the translational motion of the screw that melts the plastic left to right as opposed to up and down? I would imagine that gravity would aid in the flow melted plastic.

Justin and Becky Neill

That was a phenomenal video! I started playing disc golf at the beginning of summer and have been curious about how discs are made, so it was a treat to see the process in detail. I’m interested in how they adjust disc designs to achieve different flight profiles (i.e., the speed, glide, turn, and fade numbers). Additionally, I’d love to see a video exploring the physics behind how these flight profiles interact with the air, disc speed, RPM, and more to produce the disc’s trajectory.

Wayne Eveland

Just when I thought nothing amazing happens in my small town you show up in mine. I hope you and your team had a great time in Marlette. MVP is really a standout business.

drgwhite@gmail.com

Love this video and series. Also a disc golf nerd, so win-win-win! Also +1 on the physics of disc flight. Flight numbers are great, but I’d also like to understand how, for example, someone can get the same disc to turn (go opposite to its natural tendency to fade) early, middle, and late in flight? Is it speed, rpms, angle of attack/ release? Seeing the pros move discs as if they were on strings is mesmerizing but I want to know how they do it, what adjustments do they make? Thanks again for a great video and for giving the DG community some love.

Gavin Sullivan

These series on manufacturing are excellent. It makes my brain hurt every time the machines involved and every manufacturing facility will have a custom built machine to make the whatever along with a custom process. Just imaging the complexity that exists around the world! Maybe you can get into Boeing and look at an aircraft line one day?

Danny Wellman

Loved this! I played disc golf a ton when I lived in KS (15+ years ago). For some reason, I've only played a couple times since moving here to TX. Just watching how these things are made makes me want to get out there and play again! So fun and interesting. Keep up the good work!

I can honestly say I didn’t expect to ever be affected by this so quickly. I was driving through my town and pulled over to talk on the phone. While talking I look over and realize that I pulled in front of a disk golf store. I had an incredibly strong urge to go in and look for the MVP disk “just to feel them” . I’ve never played disk golf in my life. Nor had any interest until I watched this video. Let me just say, that I am now the owner of a Resistor fairway driver in glow plastic. I even took a picture of all the local disk golf locations in my area. What is happening to me!?!

Eric H

I loved this video! I play disc golf a lot and was so cool seeing how the discs are made. I think it would be neat to team up with Shane at Stuff Made Here and use his launcher and some pro players to show why discs fly the way they do.

Please explain why this was not available without ads on Patreon.

I think it is, _if_ you watch it while it's still an unlisted video. Once it goes public it gets ads?

Rob Howard

I think the video you did where you mentioned how to use the thumbnail testing feature to better use metrics in your thumbnails was a fantastic use of science application in real world situation.

Nancy Morrison

I’m a paying member but always am asked to join. Sigh.

Is it just me or hasn't the video for the second channel been uploaded yet? I'm just excited for it that all :D

rvadrichem

Hi Destin and team, In this video you mention a second video on smarter every day 2, yet now some months later I don't see it. Is there something wrong on my end, or is it not yet uploaded? Thank you and keep up the good work!
