IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE:

Huge thanks to The New Tennessee State Museum. They just opened, and when I rolled up in with a camera they were incredibly gracious and open minded. They're trying to figure out twitter and I'd like to help them. Click here to tweet them and say thank you on my behalf: http://bit.ly/2V2aDEj. It will make them happy and increase the odds that they'll work with me on a future project involving history.

Preston Bain owns www.nashvillerelics.com and found the "Whitworth hex drop". He sells actual artifacts from the US Civil War out of Brentwood, TN.

Mike Potucek (www.ArtisticOutdoorLighting.com) is the gentleman who re-engineered and created the replica Whitworth Cannon.

But....what is the rotation rate and velocity of the bullet!? I'm too lazy to do it :(

Clifton Ballad

First screw I picked up is either a 6 or 8-32 stainless socket head cap screw. With no calibration other than my eyeballs I'd say its 1 inch long. The 3dprinter next to me has a bunch of M2 or M3s for the frame. I'm not sure of the pitch as metric is not my first language... I know I have some beefier acme threaded clamps somewhere in the basement or garage... I am kinda cheating, I'm a welder so I sorta have to know some of these things Love the vid, keep up the great work!

Destin!! Please Help! So I ended up down a rabbit hole about surface plates because the idea of precision from nothing really intrigues me! I found this, which really neatly describes the process: http://ericweinhoffer.com/blog/2017/7/30/the-whitworth-three-plates-method What I really cant figure out is why in Step 1, you would have to invert the plates and redo the "lapping". From a physics perspective relativity would tell us that its impossible to determine which plate is "moving" and which is stationary. If you draw the frame of reference from the "lapping" stone initially, then the control stone is the one moving! All I can think is that there is some human introduced bias in the way the stones are "lapped" and thats what needs reversing? Can you help? (alternatively, you could ask your dad hahaha ... *ducks*) Tom.

Keith Johnson

At a very young age I remember my brother’s girlfriend had an ancient MG. The coolest car I had ever seen. My dad told me it needed its own special wrenches, and up until I want her this video I remembered them as Wentworth wrenches. Now I know the truth!

(Was going to repeat what Tom asked, haha!) As always, fantastic work Destin (& family!)
