Hey!  I know this may sound strange, but I'm looking for someone who;

1. Is knowledgeable about science

2. Is good at writing

3. Understands teaching

4. Needs work right now

I have an idea, and I would like to hire someone to work with me to create something special.  If you or someone you know is looking for work right now have them email a resume to "info+writer@smartereveryday.com".  I have a very specific need and I want to move out on this quickly.

Also, thank you for your support on Patreon.  I like knowing you have my back and I won't get crazy answers for a legit question.   If you mention this to non Patron friends, please don't mention "Smarter Every Day" publicly.  Privately is ok, but I don't want this out there yet if that makes any sense.  I love that I can come to you guys first with an idea, especially if it's not ready for "prime time".

Thank you!

Destin

Derek Z.

Hey, Destin. I know a guy who's not a patron but might be interested. Middle school science teacher, teaches gifted classes, contributes to designing curriculum AND has a YouTube channel. I'd be happy to put you in touch.

Peter VanNess

I put a generic call out with the list of 4 qualifiers. I'll screen for riffraff (I don't delete Facebook 'friends', what can I say), and direct the screened persons to your email.

Timothy Chambers

Sent an email with my CV, thank you for the opportunity to apply!

Kristy

I sent my C.V.!!!

Bruce Meacham

... prerequisite skill, ability to draw free body diagrams of felines gyroscoping motion in an accelerated frame. 😁 I'm so jelly

Peter VanNess

That's what I meant by generic but I can see how that can be ambiguous.

Brent Patterson

Forwarded this message to my friend Stephanie. At work she's a technical writer, but at home she's a poet!

Andrew Carter

Forwarded to three family friends who’d fit the bill. With mouths to feed, our scientists-turned-reporter is out of the running, but she did make a good point: “This is the problem of having writing as a skill as opposed to, say, knife juggling. Most people recognize they can’t juggle that well, but everyone thinks they can write.”

Andrew Carter

Now that I look at it, I’m not sure the quote is actually helpful, but it does make me laugh.

Andrew Carter

Ahhhh shoot. Mine were private messages, but they were a screenshot of the e-mail Patreon and showed your name. Apologies.

Richard Henderson

Destin, Are you considering volunteers or a full time dedicated resource? Myself and I'm sure many of your patreons come from the tech/defense/aerospace sector and some of us are skilled technical writers. Maybe we can chip in collaboratively? PS. I like turtles too.

G.Kendrick

Likewise the I.T. industry. Send up a flag, we'll all salute.

Austin Burnham

It would be really interesting to me to see what percentage of us patrons worked in that industry.

Andrew Phillips

Funeral director here. Did I stumble into the wrong room?

Trevor Elliott

I'm a writer and am English teaching major who loves science, would it be okay to submit my name? What is the time commitment for this, is it going to be an on-call type thing, part-time or full-time?

Angel S. Viloria III

Position filled? I’m an instructional Designer which means I analyze needs, design and develop training, deliver it, then measure its effectiveness (make corrections, iterate). All in tech fields ranging from aerospace, human-machine-interface, excimer lasers, network security, CICD, etc.

Dan Jones, PhD

My PhD is in Emergency Management with a concentration in the SARS-COVID-2 pandemic. My past experience as a B-52H pilot may help. If I can lend eyes to anything or if you would like to utilize a resource I would be more than happy to help.

Paul Tyler

Destin, have you filled this position? I'm a teacher, former biochemist, and writer. I write resources for schools, cutting edge science articles for teachers and teaching articles/books. If you're still looking for someone then I'll email a CV. Cheers Paul

David Hailey

It looks like you are putting together a stable of excellent writers who can cover a wide array of topics. My doc. is in professional communication. My teaching mandate at Utah State University was to identify emerging technologies and bring them to my students. My research was into complex and complicated information systems (machine language websites). I am currently retired and have shifted my scientific interests into green energy. Oh, and I am also a practiced videographer.
