Love to be small part of your videos. Hope this will give you more freedom with topics you want to cover.

Evan

Thanks Destin!

Steve Jones

Cal's website is having trouble.. I think a lot of smarter every day fans might be killing it! :-) This was amazing to see - both the failures, and understanding them, and the eventual success! Great video!

Steve Jones

Seems to be working now.. Awesome collection on display!

Terry Moore

Wow! That is amazing! Thanks for lifting my Sunday, Destin!

Fariborz Soroush

Loved how he turns the failures into lessons ... what a mantra to live in! <3 I'm curious to know what would happen if he had made a cube of glass, then let it anneal and become almost a single crystal structure. Then take it to the far end of the rubbery region and then try Prince Rupert's tail-bite (as I call it) :D... the stress (or strain) lines would be fun to observe there :)

James Heuberger

Awesome video! I just woke up and watched it and for some reason got real excited while I watched. The hierarchy of teamwork and cool as a cucumber leadership exhibited were fabulous to see in action. The whole video was like a finely tuned clock.

Bobby H Sanderson

Amazing! Thank you for showing me things I would never-ever to be able to see for myself. I've re-watched this several times already and it's interesting to note that you nearly crashed Cal's website!

Charles Behrens

Glass making is such a wonderful topic. I'd love to see more on that topic -- both cold and hot glass work.

Daniel Ryan

This was a cool one! (or was it somewhere in the rubbery plateau?) Either way, I really enjoyed this video Destin! I love that every video is a new and fun rabbit hole to follow you down!

Sirmyself

This video was awesome! A few years ago, i went to a glassblowing shop with my parents and my grandmother, we stayed in the shop for like 3-4 hours because we were fascinated by the craft. Your video allowed me to explore the physical aspect of it and it was such a good ride, thank you!

Mike Applebee

What happens to a Rupert drop if worked/shaped/polished in the cold shop?

Steve Lemon

Amazing, the most visible depiction of the interface of art and science I've seen

Matisse Enzer

The critical thing, I imagine, would be to not in any way nick the stem. Im not sure though what polishing might achieve given how the outer surface is likely super smooth to start with.

Jeremy

Hey Destin, just a minor correction on the phase diagram at 7:43, the ice to liquid line should be tillted foreword, because under pressure you can make ice liquid again. ☺️ But that‘s the first time I see a mistake in you videos, really really big fan of your high quality content 👏

RoadRunner

I wonder if there is an upper limit to the size you make a Prince Rupert drop...

Robin Lemon

Would love to see that letter/email you wrote to Cal all those years ago.

Fred S

If you liked this video you will love the Corning Museum of Glass. Wife and I have visited twice. You can even try your hand at making a glass object. The museum has some of the most gorgeous and that-looks-impossible to make objects you can imagine. Plan two days to do it justice. Their website doesn’t have enough photos for me. Destin, YOU HAVE TO VISIT! https://home.cmog.org.

Christopher Miller

Love the video as always. Cal and his team are amazing artists. Make me want to go try a glass course. Just an FYI Aubergine is what we here in the UK call eggplant hence the purple colour.

Steve

You definitely need to go to https://www.youtube.com/corningmuseumofglass The demonstrations are AMAZING. Rabbit hole warning. You WILL spend hours and hours there, then wish there were more hours in the day. They were my 3rd subscription. You will never look at glass the same again.

Robert Ayers

Along the lines of the tail softening after a few seconds in the molten glass, immediately after it explodes all of the tiny fragments are going to melt.

Erin

I agree that the box version looks great under the polarimeter. Having one of those with polarized film on at least one side (maybe two?) could be really neat.

Sarah Urfer

Beautiful and very interesting! I love the polarized images. They would make great prints.

Paul

He's right, the glass is so much more spectacular as a casting :)

Chris Cone

I really appreciate Cal's approach to failure and learning -- I found that to be the most compelling part of this video.

Andrew Beeman

I loved the video, but the audio seemed a bit worse than normal, did you do something different?

Linda Rue

Totally fascinating! Thank you, Destin.

Austin Burnham

This was my favorite video in years. Your Prince Rupert’s drop videos have always been some of my favorites. It was really neat learning about the second order transition and how the glass changes viscosity. The glass is so beautiful under the polariscope. Any chance we could get photos of that here on Patreon? Edit: I see there are good polarized pictures on the Orbix website.

Trigfur

Amazing as always. I’d like to see molten glass extruded under high pressure into water and with the outlet orifice already submerged to see the size, length, and shapes of PRD like objects that result.

Donald J Arndt

Love this video - every second of it!

Kacey Christiansen

I immediately sent this video to a friend of mine who has taken up glass blowing. He took me with him once so he could make a trophy and it was an awesome experience! He said that he's never seen the graph depicted like that, but like you said, just knows it. Such a neat video! Beautiful creations of Prince Rupert's drops, too!

Randolph Schnack

somehow I missed this. Glad I saw it here. Everything about this video was exceptional.
