Another big release is here, this time with many small upgrades, one big, that will lead to even bigger upgrade soon!

☁️ Cloud Reload (PRO only)

Page thumbnails can be now created in the cloud - on my powerful dedicated servers. This is especially important for Chrome/Edge users, where local thumbnails generator cannot work "in the background", unlike in Firefox.

This meant that "Auto-reload" feature in Chrome was quite unusable - well not anymore! :)

And Cloud reload works with "Crop / Scale" feature too! So you take a screenshot of a specific part of the page.

Limitations:- this feature is currently limited to 36 reloads per day for PRO users, and 144 reloads for Enterprise users- cloud Auto-reload is limited to at most "every 1 hour" interval- the dedicated server is using Firefox browser with adblocker / cookies blocker, some pages may load broken- because it's running on a remote server, it can't take a screenshot of your "logged in" page (only local thumbnail generator can do that)- it can't take "Group dial" screenshots (this may be doable in the future)

NOTE: This feature will allow me to create new "Web Group Speed Dial" - upgraded version of "Cloud dials" page, that will be fully editable - even without the extension installed!

🔳 Firefox Containers are now Free! 🎉

After several complains about monetizing this Firefox special feature, I've decided to make it free for everyone. I'm sorry it took me so long to make it right... Enjoy :) 🎉

📝 "Edit group" / Dials tab

There is a new "Dials" tab, where you can edit group-specific dials options:

📈 Other upgrades:

"Upload pending" icon - now you'll see an "arrow up" when you make a change to your dials (it goes away in ~9 seconds).

(and yes, the main icon is more "squared" now)

Double-click on the group name will now open "Edit group" window.

Adding a page to "Multi-page dial" will add it to the "clicked" place, not at the end! Also when you right-click Multi-page dial / Edit dial, it will focus clicked link.

White text (groups/dials names) will now have a dark shadow to make it more readable on light background.

▶️ New Introduction video 🔗

I've finally recorded new introduction video! 🎉

📃 Fixes / improvements

Full change-log, as always, is available here:https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/groupspeeddial/versions/(there was also quite a lot of bugs fixed)

⏭️ What's next

I've been told, that many cool features are hidden, or not intuitive enough. So I plan to write Tips & Tricks articles, and make tutorial videos!

Plus I will be upgrading the documentation and I'll upgrade my 8 years old homepage.

PS: Speaking of 8 years... in November my addon celebrated 8 years 🎉, and I've wrote a short history article about it:https://ko-fi.com/post/Group-Speed-Dial-is-today-8-years-old-binar-H2H715PNNA

💌 Thank you all for supporting my work!

Really amazing work! One thing I don't quite understand about cloud dials: is there any way to re-order them? I understand they have to show up in a limited way, but it seems very random/unrelated to how the page looks locally. Thanks!

Juraj Mäsiar

The Cloud dials page (https://group-speed-dial.fastaddons.com/cloud/) should look almost exactly the same as the locally installed dials page. More info about cloud dials: https://github.com/fastaddons/GroupSpeedDial/wiki/Cloud-Dials-web-page Although, there is one exception - currently the Cloud dials doesn't support "Grid layout", so groups that uses Grid layout will show "randomly ordered" dials. But this should get fixed in a near future, I just need to deploy new Cloud dials page. Also - make sure thumbnails synchronization is enabled, that way your cloud dials will have also nice thumbnails. You can do this in the Options page / Thumbnails tab.

Justin Raymond

Ah yes, it's because I'm using Grid layout, which I love :) Awesome, I'll be looking forward to that update.

Juraj Mäsiar

I'll try to finish it next week. That update should also make the Cloud dials page editable. I will post update here once it's ready.

Justin Raymond

Amazing!! No need to rush it, that's so cool though.

I discovered today that the YouTube Home page now has SIX thumbnails per row, making it very crowded and video titles useless. Meanwhile, the Subscriptions page still shows the correct number per row. Is this an "update" from YouTube that is in the queue to be "fixed"? Is there another way to set the number of thumbnails per row on the Home page?

Juraj Mäsiar

Hello Steve, YouTube has indeed changed number of videos per row, but that's not really related to my addon :), or something I could fix for them... But I agree it's terrible layout, I can see only 4 videos per row and I have 42" screen, so pretty inefficient for my taste (I've already searched the YouTube settings but I couldn't find any way to change that). I think they will change that though, there will be for sure many people complaining about it.

Steve

Today, I have 4 thumbnails on the first row, 2 on the second, 3 on the third. Then a row of "Latest YouTube Posts". Then 4 per row below that. Personally, 4 per row should be the maximum, as titles are not *too* cropped. YouTube just loves making users' experiences frustrating.

NOTE: This feature will allow me to create new "Web Group Speed Dial" - upgraded version of "Cloud dials" page, that will be fully editable - even without the extension installed! Sounds awesome! Great work as always!

Justin Raymond

Hi! I was curious if you were still planning on releasing the Grid layout for Cloud dials?

Juraj Mäsiar

Hello Justin, I have some very good news! Today I've finished new version GSD 29.0 which is now being reviewed by the stores, and which brings (among many other things) E2E encryption. And since the Cloud Dials page is now super old, it doesn't support it - so enabling E2EE breaks Cloud Dials page completely. All this means that as of today, my current main priority is to release new Cloud Dials page. And it will support (almost) all features that the addon supports. It took me forever to get this point but I'm finally here, and the new editable Cloud Dials page should be released very soon! I would like to have it out within 2 weeks. Most of the work on the new Cloud Dials page is already done since October, so I only need some final tuning... Best Regards, Juraj Mäsiar

Justin Raymond

That's exciting! Thanks for the update.
