The painting the legions series is aimed at teaching you how I create the unique hues of each of the 18 legions. By no means is this list definitive and I dare say we will be reviewing many of the legions as different techniques can be applied.

In this segment, we take a look at my beloved IXth. Enjoy the video.

Hey great video. A quick question for you. Why did you put just a touch of red on the model before you added the white highlight at the very beginning? Cheers!

Essentially, it’s to give us a lighter base coat to work from than pure black. We can see the purple show through a little more, and give an overall lustrous appearance to the armour. Try one with and without this stage - see which you prefer. And send me pictures! I’d love to see it.

Do you have something newer on blood angels legionary armour? With better quality?

Ramdam

Thanks a lot for this tutorial, i had read the tutorial on your site before (not available anymore) and it is very usefull to see it in a video. However, may be you already mentioned it but i was wandering what is the thinner you are using?

MY pleasure. The old tutorial was showing it's age and needed a revamp. It will be available here at sometime in the future. The thinner I use is Forgeworld's for all paint except for Tamiya, in which case I use the x20a thinner (it's their own brand)

Hi, do you have somewhere any pdf or video tutorial for that yellow tabard you sometimes use for your Blood Angels? Sometimes I struggle to find the right colours for the yellow and this one looks just brilliant!

Ben Fabian

Had a browse, ordered the colours. When they arrive, can’t wait to get paffing!
