I want you to start 2019 by asking yourself this:

“What makes the hobby so great?”

I had the privilege to start the year teaching abroad in Canada and North America. I found out that I would be a Dad for the first time in my Canadian host’s kitchen, and got advise on how to be a father in a bar in Charlotte.

I have followed my passion, encouraging others to do the same in turn. To develop themselves as painters, to find confidence in their brush strokes, and evolve a technique utterly of their own. Do you have any idea how satisfying it is to see someone try a new technique for the first time, and go on to master it? I’m one of the fortunate few to experience this.

I’ve completed some of the most satisfying pieces as my time as a miniature painter this year. From NMM Dorn, to my first attempt at a bust, I feel as though documenting the process for the Patreon has helped my own painting immensely, and I hope it has provided you pointers to develop your own range.

Christmas and new years is tough financially, and we all tighten our belts. Unbelievably, the Patreon has actually grown over the holidays. This past year has seen growth that has taken me aback. Professional miniature painting isn’t the most stable of incomes, and having a steady stream that I can rely on has given me financial, and personal piece of mind.

To circle back and answer my own question; what makes the hobby so great for me?

It’s interacting with you. Engaging with a diverse group of peoples, of different political views, backgrounds, religious beliefs, all united by this strange past time we all enjoy.

Going forward…

The Patreon is evolving. January will see an overhaul in how videos are delivered with a new graphic overlay, giving you paint recipes, palette shots and any useful information that appears in the video. At a glance you will be able to see the bullet point break down of what you need to know.

The live streams will receive a facelift and offer a new feedback loop. Every month will see a post asking patrons for questions that I will answer with demonstrations on the stream.

I’m also clearing up the tutorials / tutorship pledges. From now on, you can think of the Patreon as being split in 2; $15 or less gives you access to 4K video tutorials, interactive seminars and PDF tutorials

$32 or more will give you access to personalised feedback on your miniatures with a dedicated e-mail address that you can send your work to. The higher tiers also get online 1-1 lessons. I will be opening more spaces than any other time during the Patreons run on the Saturday the 5th of January.

Are you looking to boost your hobby confidence? Do you want to learn? Do you want to grow as a painter?

Are we ready for 2019?

Myles - You have been a great inspiration for the last half of 2018 for me. You’re the reason I finally started sharing my minis publicly and stopped viewing them as my secret, nerdy hobby, but rather as my artistic, nerdy hobby! I’m truly grateful that your business is growing and hope to continue to support you in your endeavors!

On a side note, as a fellow BA enthusiast- where do you get your minis?! I haven’t seen the tabards or chest pieces on the FW site - simply gorgeous. And did you make the base yourself? Thanks!

Can’t. Wait. I just finished assembling some CPT smash conversions with conversion world bits - can’t wait to get to painting! Your Angels have been a huge inspiration.

Just wanted to say that it's been cool to watch you and your Patreon grow. You can really see how much you invest yourself in it and your students. Looking forward to 2019!

Thanks for the content you put out and for the feedback you’ve given me working on marble effects. It’s great that Patreon is growing for you, I hope 2019 continues to do so.

As you know, I've been a fan of your work well before you started pumping out excellent content on Patreon. I was always afraid to pick up my tools and apply paint to anything, in fear of doing a terrible job. I jumped at the chance to sign up to your page and each month keeps getting better and better. The lessons, pdf, video tutorials and seminars have given me the confidence to push myself and finally get some models painted. Unfortunately, 2018 was a tough year for me, work and health wise but you continue to be an inspiration, 2019 is a new year, and I'll be getting those awesome lessons booked in again. The changes to the Patreon sound amazing and I can't wait to see what 2019 brings, its indeed a good year to be a Blood Angel fan! Thank you, Myles.

I've absolutely loved the content you have provided so far & hearing it's going to be even better is really exciting!!! Signing up to your Patreon page was the single best thing I did in 2018! I've learnt so much through watching your vids & reading through the PDFs & I can feel my confidence growing, playing with hues, using colours that I wouldn't even dream of using before & really pushing myself to 'create' a miniature rather than just paint it!!! Thank you very much Myles!!
