I am having an extremely hard time locating the Medea Com Art paints in Canada at a reasonable paint. Maybe some of the other Patrons can direct me to a place that sells them at a reasonable price. Alternatively, do you know of other paints that have similar properties?

Kris Campbell

Amazing Work. Beautiful red, dont think i will ever be able to replicate that, not enough patience to blend that much. I live in Australia, pretty much pointless airbrushing in Summer, even painting with a brush can become unbearable at my paint station. Yay for 30+ degree nights!!

What’s the issue with airbrushing in summer? I have no issues even on the 40+ days

Kris Campbell

I airbrush in my garage, which cops all of the afternoon sun, causing it to be just too hot, paint dries on the needle tip fast, even with flow improver. Just spend too much time cleaning the airbrush. I have only been using an airbrush since January 2017, but that has been my experience so far.

Britain is not somewhere that gets high temps often so our buildings are designed to trap & retain heat (with no way of cooling them down) unlike buildings build in warm climates. You acclimatise to your environment, for example the room I paint in is normally in the mid teens but during the heat wave it was over 30 which changed how the paint behaved from what I was used to.

That was phenomenal. It was useful to see you struggle a bit with the tip clogging, and how you handled it. Makes it much more realastic and relatable. I'm down in Aus and learning how to airbrush in summer has been tricky. I gave 15 PSI a go, but nothing really came out. Usually, 20-25 seems to be the ideal range for me based on the paint/temp.

Looking at the purple you used in the shadows, how did you determine to use that color? Specifically asking, why not a dark green as to create a dark brown tone with the inks, a dark brown, or even a dark blue?

Lil'Legend Miniature Painting Tutorials and Tuition

Dark green creates a dulled, muted shadow (complimentary colours create grey). Dark brown would also give a muddied appearance to the red. You can use dark blue, this will give a rich effect. I wanted purple to give the impression of a rich polished red (in this instance we can say the red has a fuller range of hues than a dull, unpolished armour plate)

Patrick

Thanks for the answer Thinking about using something like this for my emperors children going forward. I'd probably stick with a dark blue to go with the more historical color spectrum detailed in your EC-PDF

What size needle do you use for this on the airbrush? And what model airbrush please? I’m after a new one as the one I’m using isn’t cutting it for me. Possibly too big a needle

Hey Myles,* I had an issue where when I added the inks they had a reaction that created dark saturation / pooling marks. Have you ever encountered this? Also, in the video you mention adding deep red only within the shadows. This may seem silly but I had a hard time following that on the video, any chance you could add some further insight when you have a moment?

David Walker

Hi Miles. I tried this with the inks you mention however my reds came outvery Dark. When using inks are you using them neat or are they thinned?
