How to create distressed black armour for all Iron Hands players out there. This tutorial would also be excellent for weathering barrels, armour plates and basing.

A video for all mad alchemist's out there.

Iron Hands: Distressed Black Armour

Do you work for NSA haha, I was talking about starting an Iron Hands force the other day

I was thinking to myself this is a nice simple way to do Matt Kane style iron hands then you said it 😂 May I ask. What’s the purpose of the gloss varnish and blAck ink layer first? I know colorshifts work better over a gloss but is there a technical reason for the black ink? Thanks as always mate!

Sugar, I knew I missed something from the explanation. The basecoat I used is so matte that it appears slightly grey. The black ink is to add a more concrete black layer. It was a happy accident to find that the colour shift paint bonds to the surface better with the ink. I’d love to give a more technical answer, but in all honesty, it was a flaming Homer moment. Creation through coincidence.

Like the look of this. Thinking of something similar for my Salamanders. What colours would you use for Sallies? (I do have a stock of the FW Vulcan Green.)

Was going to try a colour shift though not used them before... so not entirely sure what colour i want mixed in. Thinking unsaturated blue/teal for the shades. Will keep you posted. ;-)

I'm starting to paint my blood angels army, and this looks awesome for death company. The photos have a greenish hue to them, how much of a difference is there in real life vs photo?

Any tips onf spraying the colour shift paints? I find they're coming out super grainy

Myles - A long time ago, on your website, you did iron hands with the shields. Any chance you remember what gold and wash was used? it looks amazing!

Do you have any alternative paint brands for North America? Green stuff world and scale 75 could be pricey and the over seas shipping in the era of covid might not be awesome. I typically use minitaire but haven’t seen any green color shifting paints like that green stuff world paint you use.

Daniel Standridge

Ahh never mind. Green stuff world ships to NA and it doesn’t cost a ton. Sorry to bother.

Scale 75 also has a warehouse in Texas in the USA where they ship from. Quick and inexpensive shipping on their line!

Follow up on that painting, when you mix paints in the video is there a particular ratio? Thinking the gloss and black ink specifically. Sorry I’m a paint by numbers guy.

Ryan, do you have to order from another web store? I apparently ordered from the Spanish website. Feeling rather incompetent haha.

Any recommendation on basing colors? Love how this method makes the models look. It’s gorgeous. I’d love to do the black sands of istavaan but worry it’s too monotone.
