Black can be just as expressive as any other hue. By learning how to tint black armour we can suggest character, tell a story, and develop eye-catching paint schemes that work for infantry and characters alike. Following on from our Dark Angel Infantry tutorial we develop these concepts further with the Advanced Black armour tutorial; suitable for Praetors, Captains and Priamrchs.

  • How to introduce warm and cool hues to differentiate armour panels.
  • How to use layering, stippling and glazing to build and refine the armour plate.
  • How to wet blend metallics to create striking power sword effects.
  • How to balance primary light sources against secondary to define all aspects of the armour.

Incidentally I’d love to see more of the occasional video like this where you’re just going at it and not slowing down for tutorial purposes; ironically, I think I’m picking up a lot by seeing the concepts you’ve handled previously at an instructional pace being demonstrated full-bore with no brakes.
