Hey all!

I'm looking to stock minis in my store and will probably do Reaper. The only trouble is that Reaper has over 1,000 minis to stock. Even if I had an unlimited budget, I don't have the space for that many minis. So I want to make sure I stock what folks want.

I haven't used minis in years, but I know folks love 'em. What do you prefer to get when you buy minis for your games? Assuming you have a limited budget, of course. Vote below.

If you don't use/collect minis, please abstain from the poll.

Thanks everyone!

Also a store near me runs paint sessions to paint minis you buy. Money well spent and it’s fun

There should be a variety. A few big, some in between. But what I've seen people asking for the most is characters and npcs.

I have become a huge fan of hero forge. It's a lot of work, but you could try designing and printing your own.

It might be a bit of work, but stock up on the ones that show up most in your adventures. So if someone is picking up one of your books they can also pick up a few of the more prominent minis that go with it. Plus some of the cooler minis for fun.

The GM I play with a lot usually has our PCs and will pull out the monster of the night. Usually its a decent sized critter, but occasionally its a group of smaller ones. He has been collecting minis for a few years. For the games I have run, I tried to get all the mobs that they may run up against. I am still doing that even though I have moved away from minis since covid, The one group I host has that GM playing so he brings the PCs for that game, and they substitute things off the table to represent the monsters, primarily because we are not near my minis and what they run up against is totally random for the most part (Forbidden Lands).

Grakius

I use Lego minifigs. Started when my kids were young and I didn't trust them with treasured lead men. Now they are in high school and they prefer them because they can change their look as they want.

WD

I use paper minis. Easy to replace, cheap to print, still gets the job done

David Armstrong

All the minis possible for the campaign I'm going to run AND painted minis for all the PCs that players want to run.

I voted “other” because the only minis I have bought were single minis to represent my characters. Most of my group is the same way; they don’t have minis except the ones that are “us”. So I’d suggest at least a handful of basic class-based minis for players looking to represent their characters at the table.

Other: 1. Buy a mixed box of either washers or nuts (wood or metal) 2. Use a hardware crafting cabinet from any hardware store w/ many tiny drawers & label them. 3. Print out small thumbnail photos of desired token & cut into small circles. 4. Using double sided crafting tape, fix them to the washer/nut/bolt. Duplicate other side w/ same portrait, put a piece of tape over it, & w/ a red sharpie draw a red X. Now you have a token, and on the flipside a body. You also now have permanent cheap reusable tokens. Just label your drawers differently. Like characters, NPC‘s, goblins, orcs, undead, plants, beasts, villains, etc.

Focus on general fantasy miniatures. You want a variety to appeal for players looking for a figure that looks like their character. You want to allow DMs to be able to get several packs of the same for say goblins, kobolds, skeletons. You also want the Boss Monsters. My local game store had Reaper minis at one point. They gradually phased out the Reaper figures in favor of D&D, Pathfinder, and War Hammer figures and packs that are selling.

Daniele Pressi

Like a master I love to paint and gift PC miniatures to players. I often use tokens for most of monsters/enemies and only use miniatures for bosses

Mark Widner

I use minis and actively scout through the STL artists to find good sculpts to print for my games.

Other: Custom minis for dmdave stuff like the murder hobo Santa Claus holiday module or other unique future dmdave team stuff!

Jason Nance

I need to pick two options in the poll. All the minis I can, and the cool ones that I may just want to paint (even if I don’t ever plan to use them).
