As I said many chapters ago, give Stannis a pack of cigarettes for his patience, or at least make him a Saint, lol. Too bad Sansa won't be able to get married under the Weirwood Tree 💔. Maybe Axel could take a little "flight" and take his brides to the Isle of Faces and get married there a second time? 😏

Out of all of Axel's outlandish feats, the one thing that Stannis still can't believe is that a son of Robert can be this proactive and down to earth (more figuratively than literally these days, though).

....No Master of Whispers? That's gonna bite them in the ass down the road. "Where the hell did these dragons come from?!" A Master of Whispers I don't think anyone has considered yet is Oberyn. Hear me out here. Yes Oberyn Martell is not calm or calculating. BUT, he's charming and knows people. He's smart, having studied at Old Town, and experienced having travelled all over including Essos. He has a way with people. I think Oberyn could make a fairly effective Master of Whispers in his own style. Poor Stannis trying to hang on to his sanity and not get too many ulcers. I like the idea of Beric as Master of Laws. And I think I may have called it as far as Marwyn goes. Not certain so not gonna crow too loudly about it. Hopefully Stannis can come to appreciate Tyrion for his own merits in time. Masterful move, getting the Faith to pay for his wedding. Maybe a small private ceremony for Sansa in front of a Heart Tree later.

This chapter is another wonderful reminder about why "Stannis the Mannis" is such a fitting nickname for the man...he understands his limits in seeking answers to fanciful stories but he doesn't just dismiss the crazy, either. He's also the right kind of blunt to complement his nephew's style of doing things. That being said...the lack of an effort to find a replacement for Varys as Master of Whispers simply because he can't fathom anyone trying to take a run at Axel after all the crazy shit the younger man has pulled off is definitely going to lead to egg on his face when the last Targaryen shows up with dragons and fire magic, backed with a Dothraki horde at her beck and call 😞

Axel needs a Master of Whispers. Intelligence and information is vital for a healthy kingdom. I'm wondering, will the High Sparrow make an appearance in this fic? I can't enter the Discord server

I definitely love the idea of having overyn as master of whispers, it will make all more fun knowing his personality besides that way he van keep and eye on Arianne

Nah, no High Sparrow. Everything is honestly too stable for the High Sparrow to show up. Faith of the Seven gets to basically piggyback off of all of Axel's constant wins and victories so its kind of impossible to build an uprising within the Faith against the High Septon or Most Devout

Also not sure why its not letting you into the Discord. It should autopull you when you connect your Patreon and Discord accounts. Thats frustrating :(

Oberyn: *sitting at the new Small Council table with his feet resting on it* "Ah, my dear, dear king and husband to my beloved niece! I'm here to audition!" Axel: "...Audition?" Oberyn: "Why, I heard you had not yet found a Master of Whispers, and wished to offer my services!" Axel: "Uhm, actually, we were thinking we might not need a Master of Whispers..." Oberyn: *gets serious* "Bad idea. You may be INVINCIBLE my king, but those around you aren't. And some plots might strike you where even you are vulnerable. You did me a great service by removing Clegane's head and humiliating Tywin Lannister. Now let me return the favor." Axel: "And what makes you qualified to be Master of Whispers if you don't mind me asking?" Oberyn: "I have lovers and friends in every corner of Westeros and Essos that I keep in contact with, I studied at Old Town and am knowlegable on a number of subjects, I'm well accquanited with poisons and the subterfuge necessary to use them, I'm familiar with Essos as well as Westeros, I have various contacts amongst a variety of people including sellswords, and I have a plan to turn every brothel in the land and aboard into information gathering centers by recruiting whores as spies as nobody would raise an eyebrow at somebody with my reputation going to a brothel or summoning a whore. Need I go on?" Axel: "Nope, you've sold me! Welcome aboard!"

Tywin's perspective at the beginning of chapter 74 proved it wasn't Axel's. Didn't mention who's it was, but "And besides, even if she had been telling the truth about sleeping with Axel Baratheon before she tried to kill him, it wasn’t like anything came of it… unfortunately." is pretty explicit.

If Margery could convince him, Olenna would probably make a good Mistress of Whispers. Not sure how open that appointment would be or how he could be convinced of her loyalty, but she's the only one who probably has an active market of secrets going on in Westeros. Or someone from Dorne, though they'd probably be more focused on Essos, but the assumption would be whispers in Westeros over Essos, and I'd assume Olenna has the better system in Westeros. Margery would also probably push harder for Olenna than Arianne would recommend any of the people running their markets, as much as she's friends with secretive grunts. Maybe Margery could be the bridge to get Olenna, backed by Axel, to take over Qoren's intelligence aparatus. IDK, Axel hasn't been good for the markets of secrets he's touched. Maybe he can just brute force honesty, but I don't think he'd be satisfied with that the more he thinks about it. There's a reason he increased the taste testers, after all. Master of Secrets is a similar necessity.

I still support my suggestion of Oberyn Martell, if for no other reason than the fact that giving a TYRELL control over the Seven Kingdoms' intelligence gathering would probably give poor Stannis a heart attack. :P
