Lord Sesshomaru

Axel is a Hobbit, except instead of eating six times a day, he fucks six times a day 🤷🏻‍♂️. I was laughing so hard at the scene with Thoror 😂 Axel: I don't need a Master of Whispers 😎. (He gets "tricked" by that drunkyard of Thoros 🤦🏻). But I like that Axel makes mistakes sometimes. It makes him more human ❤️

Axel's himbo energy needs to be studied

Sith2go

In the books Thoros is hated by blacksmiths, especially the one who was raising Gendry. Because he kept ruining swords by smearing them with wildfire and igniting them. In the show however its magic that he and Beric can perform.

*bangs head on desk* Goddamnit Axel, you spoke with ONE crappy drunk of a Red Priest and decided that everything was okay? OBERYN! Go audition for Master of Whispers NOW, this lovable himbo needs help desperately. ESPECIALLY if he's going to start looking into the Citadel Conspiracy.

It's a bad sign when you think you are more smart/clever than everyone around you. Axel may be effectively invulnerable at this point but his wives arent. He needs to get Lady Olenna on his side as his Master/Mistress of Whispers, especially since she is effectively doing it now for her family, and probably has all the smarts her son missed out on.

I do wonder at the position of Master of Whispers. Both at the idea that a spy master would so publicly be so and whether or not Vary's was an oddity in not being the mouth piece of the person/persons actually doing the job (that's more my own head canon forming though). That or if it's more that the position is about it's holders discernment and ability to verify the information coming their way and their just the acknowledged go to 🤔 either way weird position to so publicly be in 🤷 I was wondering if Axel might look to Dorne (perhaps Oberyn or one of his daughters would fit) or having Davos try to organise something from among the sailors? Just to get that ball rolling.

JoeMcCool

Master of Whispers is the medieval version of the modern position of a national security advisor or director of an intelligence/spy agency. They are not expected to do the actual spying, they assign people to get certain info and review and present it to the leader as needed.

redhawktiger

The truly hilarious part of this is that I can't even blame Thoros for this. His new fear of wildfire is perfectly understandable after what happened with Robert, and logic of who would mess with Axel is sound.....unfortunately there's always a Condiment king out there that thinks he can beat Batman. In this case, Melisandre is Condiment King to Axel's Batman lol

Ofunu

She is the best candidate for the position, but the current political situation makes her a poor choice. The Tyrells rebelled against the crown. They are lucky that Margery is allowed to remain as a mistress at all. Giving them more than that would cause other loyal lords to feel slighted, even if they would not be a good fit for the seat of Master of Whispers.

Alun Lewis

Axel...one interview that SEEMS to go your way is not fulfilling the idea of "trust, but verify" and setting up a bad case of "caught-with-breeches-down-itis" that could possibly harm your Queens or innocent smallfolk! You're literally a giant target for every crazy or overconfident party who thinks they have a great plan to conquer Westeros or defeat a Champion of the Seven!

Uzu

Axel doesn't realize it yet but it's good that he'll have plenty of kids to keep him grounded. All of his wives and lovers will die of old age☹️he won't age a day over 20 for centuries

Sorry probably could have worded my comment better, largely just let thought be writ as it came. I've no expectation of a Master of Whispers to be doing any of the practical dirty work. Whether that be working themselves into a trusted position or pumping a whore for information (ha). Varys is the main cause for the questioning. The job itself is described as being an advisor on matters of intelligence and espionage yet Varys is portrayed more like he's a Spy Master, assigning his 'little birds' to tasks rather than assigning someone to handle that. It has me questioning if the MoW does 'just' review and present information as needed or if they are also directly overseeing the operations to get that information. If Varys was as hands on as it seems then his network has likely dissolved but if not then it could still be operating, which leads to the question of what's being done with the info and who is running things. The publicity seems odd to me because the number of people that know Varys as the MoW should be relatively small since the number of people a MoW would answer to is much smaller than a modern equivalent yet everyone seems to know him as The Spider (though that could largely be the perspectives we see through at play). Varys has blurred the job role for me as he seems to be filling two roles at once and has me questioning things because of it. I think that's a better explanation of where my head was at with it. Lemme know what you think 🙂

Yeah, think Axel may be suffering from a combination of success and his own hype. Olenna would be great at the job but horrible in the role. Her loyalty and interests are for her and her own. Think JO LP is also right in that giving such a role to someone in a family that got the equivalent to a slap on the wrist after trying to get themselves on the throne by backing a false claim to it would have to many hiccups to ever be worthwhile.

The great thing about this story is that it doesn’t have to end after westeros, once he’s done he’ll have plenty to explore in the invincible universe. Westeros I’m assuming is a very small part of the invincible universe. Meaning you don’t have to milk this as much just because of how OP he is.

JoeMcCool

Considering that Axel made Tyrion Master of Coin, the son of someone he doesn't trust, it's not a far leap (heh) to recruit Lady Olenna. However Axel may very well make it an unofficial/under the table appointment. Plus Lady Olenna is too smart to go against Axel after what he did in the Iron Islands.

RichterQ87

Man, we've got the next Sherlock Holmes over here. Axel: Great news everyone, we're in no danger of reprisal from the Red God! Stannis: ...How did you ascertain that? Axel: Elementary, my dear Mannis. Absolutely going to come back to bite Axel in the ass, but boy if it isn't funny as shit.

RichterQ87

As I understand it, Cam has already gone on record to say that the story will end shortly after Axel's mom comes back. Bit of a shame considering the sheer potential it has for story avenues, but I can't blame him for not wanting to milk this particular premise or it could go on forever, even if I would very much like to see Axel interact with the Viltrumites (and kick their asses six ways til Sunday).

Kasikan

A sad day when you believe your own hype enough to feel like no one would ever lie to you or go against you. With magic, who knows what can be done to kill a seemingly invincible person. Just being put into an enchanted sleep for a thousand years would be more than enough to destroy everything he could ever care for.

Doug Bowman

Depending on how his physiology reacts to magic, he may not age ever. Especially if he actually starts interacting with gods, or even manages to become one himself. Depending on how the mechanics of godhood work.

OrganicMeat(2.0)

Bro that’s such a waste, his mannerisms and his upbringing would’ve been so unique to see when it came to the invincible universe. That actually kinda ruins the plot for me actually, Is he really only a viltrumite just for the sake of being OP? Thats so disappointing.

Alun Lewis

One could suppose this story wouldn't be drastically different if Axel was Kryptonian - even Kal-El himself - so other than the conceits of Viltrumites intentionally seeding worlds by interbreeding with the local populations (not familiar with Viltrumite lore very much to know if Nolan sticking around to help raise Mark in the show is the norm or what Axel's mom did is the SOP) and how Axel's powers developed (ex. if Axel = Kal-El, he'd develop similarly but he wouldn't have struggled with the poisons as a kid in the same way and Ironheart or other Valyrian Steel weapons would either leave zero marks/break or he'd always be vulnerable to injury or death from them due to any magic used in the forging process).

OrganicMeat(2.0)

Pretty much. He’s OP for the sake of being OP I could’ve seen him fighting and struggling against other viltrumites, nearly dying and losing to characters like battle beast, but going against people who lack any powers is just a waste. Realistically, he could stabilize his own kingdom using brute force, and fly right over to all his enemies and kill them. The only thing stopping him is his lack of knowledge(Plot) which feels like the author holding back his own character so he can struggle around in the dark, go through a whole bunch of shit he can’t stop because of his own awareness and perspective and come out on top because he’s both OP and the main character. Which is overkill in my opinion.

OrganicMeat(2.0)

I think it would’ve been better if he were an actual avatar of the seven or some shit, It wouldn’t make him insanely overpowered(He could die to say a 100 men charging at him all at once) but he wouldn’t be OP and it’d keep me invested because he’s not completely invincible(Not a reference lol) and any mistake on his part could end very badly for him.
