Yeah but there's a reason Stannis isn't loved, and his lack of tolerance to the whoring industry is one of them. It makes perfect sense that he'd seize a chance given to dismantle the brothels.

Thats why its shortsighted and foolish, put taxes and protections in place. He removed the brothels and made things worse in the process even if the author hasn't gone over it. But there is a good chance disease and sickness has risen across the city of people are going to fleabottom to get their kicks. There's to many knock on effects to lists.

I'm glad to see Tyrion not only surviving, but thriving in his new position! Sounds like he's managing to get even Stannis' grudging respect. Something someone said stuck with me: "One man's shit is another man's gold". I think metaphorically speaking, this chapter describes that as Tyrion himself. To Tywin, he was less than shit. But now, while still not fully trusted he's as good as gold for Axel Baratheon and his reign. Axel, like Tyrion in this chapter, looked beyond the shit and stench of the Lannister name, and found a treasure beneath it all. I'm probably giving the lovable himbo too much credit, but it still strikes me as poignant.

Not surprised he hid his ill gotten gains down there. Figured when they were getting all of the wildfire caches out that he'd have used it as an opportunity to hide more stolen coins. Seemed like the thing he'd do, besides overcharging how much it cost to dig and move stuff. He was constantly finding ways to embezzle and hide his thefts all at the same time.

Once the sewers are scoured for more blocked off tunnels hiding Littlefinger's rainy day funds, and the city drainage system confirmed as working OK again, that'll be Tyrion's next public works miracle...nationalized nookie 😜

Honestly, when Tyrion was consulting the sewage system map and realizing that there were less tunnels and overflow drainage than there should be...I just thought it was leading to Tyrion realizing that his predecessor had used any recent sewer expansion projects to embezzle Crown funds by not actually expanding things but still having "updated" maps made. But the revelation that Baelish used the new tunnels to hide his ill-gotten gains and WALLED OFF THE ENTRANCES was...*chef's kiss*

In regard to reopening the brothels a Small Council meeting takes place including Oberyn, Lady Olenna and Tyrion confront Stannis to convince him to reverse his ruling. They cite crime rates, STDs, intel collection and tax revenues as reasons. Stannis looks like he is biting a lemon when he reluctantly agrees while Axel is grinning in the background.
