I'm thinking something ala Buster sword from FF7.....

Commissar Kad

Dawnbringer would be a good name

TheSinful

Obviously it should be named Dragonheart Or Ashbringer Or Frostmourne Or the Dragonbuster Or Fuck-you-up-inator

Lord Sesshomaru

"That thing was too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, it was more like a large hunk of iron" Welcome back Dragonslayer ❤️. Now all that's left to do is kill supernatural beings and it will be a perfect copy 👌🏻

SylverIron

Goodbye Stonehart, no one ever forgets their first. o7

Devilsadvocate

All of these depend on the exact dimensions. we know the sword is plenty long, but what about the width and thickness of the blade? Further more both profile and distil taper can change everything about how a sword moves and is used. There are records of Rapier with blades long enough to rival Montante but the two are used in wildly different ways. This isn't to say Cam has to give an Oakeshott typology (though it would be helpful) but just a statement of Buster sword or realistic sword would allow for much easier naming.

TheSinful

.........................what What does literally any of that have to do with the names?

SylverIron

I personally vote for The Fuck-You-Up-Inator.

William

I tried to think about Axel's personality and goals and strengths, and what the sword would ACTUALLY be useful for, like other than just comfort and style, when would a sword actually be USEFUL to him, and i came up with a possible name. Feels a little cringe honestly, and its definitely gotta be taken by plenty of other weapons in fiction, but. DOOMSLAYER. He doesn't really need the sword for much accept better efficiency against titanic creatures, and easier damage against creatures invulnerable to most normal weapons and forces(😉) , and such creatures would normally be capable of being the DOOM of entire civilizations, also, the sword is made of Valyrian steel, which Noone knows how to make anymore because of the DOOM of valyria, Not sure the sword would actually be much use against a volcanic apocalypse, but it still fits well enough thematically. Final point, if Axel ever ended up in an Omake in marvel, he could use the sword to SLAY DOOM, or if he goes to hell he could give the sword to some random extraordinarily ANGRY 'guy' 😉 he happens to encounter there.

VaticToxic

Depends on if he names it before or after he fights Wights and Others with it imo

Devilsadvocate

Dragonheart would be a narrow thrust focused blade with high distil taper. Ashbringer, a more realistic but still broad cutting blade, virtually no profile taper, still high distil taper to thin out to a cutting plane. Frostmourne, I know it's from warcraft but it's still a XXa profile with dumbass serrations. Dragonbuster, obviously a hybrid of the buster sword and dragonslayer less a sword and more a particularly long sword shaped splitting maul. Fuck-you-up-inator, the most shardblade/crucible sword looking of the bunch with some kind of insane hook ended shovel head looking blade.

JoeMcCool

So is the sword based on the German Zweihänder, the William Wallace Claymore, or the Cloud Strife Buster sword? And as for the name? The Throngler. 😅

TheSinful

No, every single one is a reference. Dragonheart was two or three movies. Ashbringer and Frostmourne are from Warcraft. Dragonbuster is from Legend of Dragoon. And FYUI is a Phineas and Ferb reference

MercerV12

I’m guessing a thinner but equally big version of guts sword, or the elden ring version of the great sword (which is listed under colossal swords)

Alun Lewis

I think something simple but telling would be the right choice for Axel's new blade...Leviathan, maybe? Or Leviathan's Bane? Gotta lean into the whole "Chosen One of the Seven" mantle by using religious imagery of some massive destructive object or creature 😉 On another note? Go Dany! Tell that silly himbo King of the Seven Kingdoms you wanna get wrecked by his breeding tool! Remind him that you can take a bit more of a pounding than his other women and are ready to work off your debt by being his stress relief cumdump!

Eric Lachance

Colossal sword, bro I see what you did there, and I approve.

Dan Templeton

Sword names… Totally impractical Montante Or Titanic Invincible™ Montante Etc TIM for short….

Sergio Beauregard

The way it was described as too big and unwieldy to be wielded by anyone but him. I immediately had to think of the Dragon Slayer from Berserk. You can even make a bad pun that he has the tools for slaying a dragon and laying a dragon. Or you can make Daenerys suggest the name for defeating her.

Devilsadvocate

I did not know that. Though I stand by the FYUI being some insane over engineered modern art piece of a sword, it just seems like what Doofenshmirtz would make.

William

It repeatedly mentions how lightweight the metal is, but it also says " too absurd and unwieldy for anyone, even with the light weight of the metal" and this line is talking about the size of the blade, so I interpreted it as the sword being actually light enough to use normally, but its just so stupidly big that without super strength and speed, literal wind resistance slows it down enough to tire out normal people.

William

It has also occurred to me that the white walkers are sometimes called ice DEMONS, what better hate fueled rage driven wrath powered WMD could you have for killing demons than one named Doom Slayer. Im not really sure what that particular name has to do with a weapon's ability to slaughter entire dimensions of wretched pest little demons, but for some reason I just feel like it fits.

RHar

From what I actually know about back scabbards and very tall swords, I can think of a few name. "Stair Clanger" "Chair slicer" "Cloak Blocker" "No-Clipper" "The Unsheathable" But if we're going serious, might as well just call it "Colossus"

DarkthShadow

Now I can't help but wonder, where will this fic go after Axel beats the Others? Will he travel to essos, will his mom come back and do Viltrumite things? Will Invincible or Omniman or someone else show up?

RichterQ87

I guess it would be pretty tactless to name it Dragonslayer like Guts' sword what with Daenerys and everything, huh? lmao

redhawktiger

Nice chapter. As for the sword, since Axel is a Baratheon, either Spike Horn or The Antler lol

Potato

Aww bruh the docs are being weird

Shepherd

A Zweihänder. Axel now has Valyrian Steel Zweihänder. I am CACKLING as I think of anything that could compare to this sword in the entirety of the GoT universe!
