Just focus on Ygritte, Jon. Eyes on the red-head, and everything will work out fine.

SquiddlyWinks

1) “…anything down to Jon snow” 2) Sex included? Axel will be a busy man

Big ToFu's Corner

That reaction was more ego than smarts, instead of thinking with his cock he's now thinking with bravado. No back up, no food, not even directions 🤦🏾‍♂️face palm 3x

Chainsword83

I really, Really, REALLY want Axel to get his shit kicked in by the White Walkers and be forced to retreat. Even Dany was barely a challenge, and our Lovable Himbo is getting cocky. He NEEDS a genuine threat not only to his people and loved ones, but to HIMSELF. After all, is it really bravery or overcoming odds if there's no real risk to oneself? Axel NEEDS a genuine threat to face in order to complete his Hero's Journey and FULLY cement his legend. So I'm hoping next chapter or two has him crashing back next to the Wildling's camp with the Night King's spear in his shoulder after he got in too deep.

I mean, it's not like anyone other than Dany could help him without being a dead weight. Besides, if he's alone, he can fly as fast as he wants to escape. Food/water wouldn't even be an issue for weeks.

Munsu

After fire, let's go with ice. Let's see how Alex will deal with something as unatural as those fucking Walkers and their Zombies.

Big ToFu's Corner

Shows lack of forethought, and lack of common sense regardless of how powerful he is or may think he is. He didnt even pause to consider things, that's not a good sign. To much ego and brawn not enough brains.

Kasikan

Mance saying if he doesn't let them through the women and children die really should have had him asking why he should give a shit about any of them dying. Since if they were allowed to run free south of the wall they'd just act the same way the Ironborn do. Rapists and reavers who don't sow, just raid for a good portion of them. So them saying that as if it's something he should care about is fairly stupid. He has more reasons to want to leave them there than any to bring them through to his side of the wall. They should have said something about what they can offer for their safe passage including them getting on their knees for once in their life and begging for mercy. Since they're definitely not going to get any from the White Walkers. Then again these are the idiots who won't kneel to a king, but will follow the orders of one as long as he's on that side of the wall and willing to slum it enough to look like one of them.

Correction: the "... anything down to Jon Snow ..." should be "done”.

White walkers are nowhere NEAR the level of a Viltrumite. They are absolutely wrecking base humans, but the humans have a shot. Unless the “Great Other”, something that is only theorized to exist, shows up or gives the Others some juice up, Axel shouldnt get his shit kicked in.

Lord Sesshomaru

It's always nice to see Axel floating in the air ❤️. I've read that some people want Axel to have a real fight against the Night King. I mean, if Arya managed to one-shot him with plot armor, what could Axel with infinite strength and speed do?. (Axel hits him in the head with his "sword" and kills the Night King for 40 lives 🤷🏻‍♂️) The most we'll see is a fair fight, but nothing that will make Axel run away. 🤔 He's getting arrogant, yes, but until the final boss (Mom) arrives, there's really no one in Westeros who can REALLY hurt him. Oh, if Val really wants Axel, she needs to find a way to get him to "conquer" her over in bed ❤️. This is the only way for the Free Folk 😌

The problem with having a viltrumite in ASOIAF is that there is nothing that can really go toe to toe with him, until another viltrumite comes. I mean, yeah the Night King has magic and his spear could maybe damage Axel. But unless Axel sandbags it without using his full speed, the Night King would probably fail to hit him at all. Even if another viltrumite comes and they fight, Axel would have a slight advantage by being backed by some local gods. So far they have not given him anything he wasn't born with so who knows if they can actually make a difference, but they do exist and they do claim him as their champion. So I would guess they would be willing to help if push comes to shove.

Ofunu

Val is married if I remember correctly. Unless Jarl has been killed by the WW she isn't available.

Kasikan

They're Wildlings. Kill the guy and take her, then she's yours. That's literally their entire culture.

thevolunteer

The timeline is all sorts of fucked up here regardless.

William

You sound like a Crow.

Cambrian

Jarl isn't Val's husband, he's the latest of her boytoys and he dies in canon trying to traverse the Wall. I'm not planning on having him be mentioned at all tbh, so you can just imagine he died doing something similar or got picked off by wights/white walkers

William

I dont understand why so many people insist that its a "problem" that a main character isnt in danger in a story, the Hero's Journey is ONE formula for an amazing story, but this story does not need to follow it, Axel has almost never been in any real danger in this story, and almost all of us have loved the whole story so far. There is no reason to: "insert difficulty because nobody likes it when a story is happy the whole way through" a story of growth and struggle and danger is fine and great, but a well written story of power and victory and success and fun can be just as great.

William

What is there left to think through? He sat and listened and thought about the situation for literally HOURS as Cam knows how many free folk told him everything they knew about the whitewalkers and wights, Do you think that he'll magically learn more about them by sitting on his sword handle for a week? What plan could he come up with that works better and safer for everyone involved than just him going and resting the walkers? Should he bring a scorpion over and test if the walkers are weak against big arrows? Should he go all the way back to kings landing and grab a barrel of wildfire to throw?(okay maybe that one wouldnt be a bad thing, but is it actually any more effective than just going to scout the walkers himself? Probably not) Strategy is a force multiplier for armies and leaders just like how a sword is for a warrior, Axel has more force in his pinky than the entirety of westeros. This doesn't mean that he SHOULDNT use strategy, but it does mean that the best strategies for him are almost always going to be to go in himself to handle a problem before it gets any of his people killed.

thevolunteer

lol yeah either Mance or Tormund calls him her “pet”.

Ofunu

Not really. A story were the main character easily wins every time without some effort or some struggle is boring. It's entertaining to read power fantasies were the main character is super OP and curve stomps every enemy they encounter but those stories never remain entertaining for long. However a good author will give the MC struggles that do not align with their strengths. A character who is so physically powerful nothing can challenge them in the battlefield should be given struggles outside of the battlefield. A character who is the smartest often is depicted as pragmatic too and will struggle with challenges that are costly to them personally. Reading about characters overcoming challenges is what makes a story worth reading.

VaticToxic

"In the meantime, anything done to Jon Snow will be revisited on every man in this encampment." So if Ygritte rides Jon while Axel is gone...? Phrasing, Axel, be careful there.

Alun Lewis

I'm of two camps on the subject of how much trouble Axel will have dealing with the wights and White Walkers...seeing him single-handedly wreck an ice zombie army would be epic, but actually having him struggle with the task would give him more experience for eventually facing Mommy Dearest via further toughening him and making him less susceptible to any common Viltrumite combat tactics. I mean...this upcoming fight just REEKS of being a perfect opportunity for yet another ancient god to decide that Axel needs to be removed from play and interfere with Axel's zombie genocide. Especially a god or goddess who wields ice so cold even Viltrumites feel it.

William

Saiki K, One Punch Man, Overlord, the entire slice of life genre, the entire comedy genre, bunches of other genres, there are plenty of stories that are amazing and well loved, and have no danger to main character at any point. MAYBE overcoming challenges is necessary for a good story, but I highly disagree with that idea, because to me it feels like its too rooted in the idea that all stories are ultimately about overcoming challenges, i don't want to go too far into that topic right now though. And besides, its not a matter of whether the story has overcoming challenges or not, its a matter of people wanting any story that includes combat to have the main character lose sometimes, because if the story seems serious and combat or direct conflict are a common situation in the story, then everyone wants to completely ignore any other type of confrontation and focus on the fact that the main character wins a lot of fights, Axel doesn't need to lose for the story to be good, because the story isnt about someone learning and growing and struggling their way to the top, its about a VILTRUMITE IN WESTEROS. Its about an seeing what would happen if someone IMPOSSIBLY powerful came along to flip the great game on its a$$ and enjoying the ride to wherever its heading. The conflict and loss and tragedy already had its turn in Canon. Maybe Axel will suffer and lose, maybe he'll easily succeed, maybe Axel will be capable of easily wiping out the walkers but a plot event will occur that stops him from acting with that capability for a while. Either way Cam will certainly write it well enough for almost all of us to completely enjoy the read. All im saying is that Axel doesnt NEED to lose for the story to continue being amazing. I wrote this reply over the course of like an hour because I was busy, so if it seems a bit incoherent at some points or something that's probably why.
