At least for this first one, it feels like it's important to show the planning and how the MC approaches it.

Just a suggestion, but what if instead of a normal set , even if he were to steal a king as well, he instead steals a prototype set , that not only has the ability to optimize the recipient, instead of just enhancing them after the chess figures, make a dragon more dragon or remove its weakneses or turn a nekomata into a nekoshu. Or it could give every member of the perage access to the abilitys of the other members, limits could be pawns get acces to one, bishops to two etc. , decided by the king and he can change the acces later on as well. Would be a nice variation to the usual boring sets. If he were to rob ajuka, will he also see some of the other hidden projects? In canon there is the whole eveil sacreat gear stuff hidden in some vault, and if he were to already steal it, it could not get into the wrong hnds later on. A wish i had for his future members would be Lucoa from the dragon maid anime. She was for a time a goddes in the atztek pantheon, but was later kicked out because she was drunk and did something dumb. Would be a nice way of adding a dragon to his harem, without adding tiamat like every oter fic.

I love a good planning scene, but generations of heist movies were explaining the plan in advance only ensures that something will go wrong compel me to pick in what I see as the self interest of the character

Given some of Grayfia's dialogue, you should have titled this chapter "Rock Me Amadeus" based on the Falco song... but that fruit was perhaps too low hanging.

What if the explanation comes after the heist is already succesful? Like in the movie about the magicans who hold shows and rob people, "Now you see me"? Could be a nice compromise.
