Hell of a Show Ch. 48 (DxD AU/Multi) (Patreon)

A/N: Grayfia is sent on a scouting mission.

“… Rumi I want you to open a portal in an alley close to the tower. Grayfia, I want you to slip through it and go check out the situation at the top of the tower for us, alright? That way we can decide what we’re going to do next. And if you see Bobby or Celine, fill them in and make sure they’re safe.”

Grayfia smiles as her Lord and Master takes charge of things.

“As you say, Master.”

Before she can depart however, Amadeus steps forward and grabs hold of her, pulling her into a deep, passionate, tongue filled kiss that leaves Grayfia increasingly flustered and her poise as a maid highly tested. When he finally lets go of her, his eyes blaze as he meets her gaze.

“And most importantly of all, stay safe.”

“A-As you say, Master.”

Curse her stutter! She should have been more composed than that, kissing or no kissing! In the end though, Grayfia has to all but flee through the small portal that Rumi makes for her, finding herself back in Seoul as the Huntrix Leader closes it behind her almost immediately.

Turning to look up at the massive tower just a couple blocks away, Grayfia rises into the air while using her technique to remain undetected… only to freeze in confusion. Because what she sees doesn’t make any sense. The top of Huntrix Tower should be blown to smithereens, with some damage to the city surroundings and a whole lot of smoke and fire. It hasn’t been that long, after all.

Instead… instead, Huntrix Tower looks untouched to the naked eye and there’s not a single fire in sight. Grayfia slowly looks around at her surroundings, trying to see if there’s any damage she can detect from the explosion at the top of the tower… and that’s when she sees it… faint shimmers here and there.

Illusions. Specifically illusions cast by devils from what Grayfia can tell. Her eyes narrowing, Grayfia closes in on a couple of the illusions… and slips inside of them undetected. What she finds is damage, but not the destruction she was expecting. Instead… the damage is being rapidly repaired by construction crews relying on magic and devil strength to put things back the way they were.

Rather than confront them, Grayfia flies up to the top of Huntrix Tower itself and slips through the even larger illusion she finds there. And once inside… well, she finds even more construction crews working as hard as possible to fix up the top floor of the tower to how it was before. And in the middle of all of them… is Serafall Leviathan.

“Come on people, keep it moving! NO SLACKING! That’s an order from your damn Satan!”

Grayfia just stares, utterly baffled. She’d expected to come out and find Lucrezah gone and their enemies lying in wait. How had Serafall heard about all of this? And where had the numerous factions who had been vying for K/DA’s heads gone?

Well… there’s only one real way to find out more, Grayfia supposes…

An hour earlier, Serafall had been back in her office, swamped and working late. She’d been bemoaning her fate to nobody at all, talking to empty air and begging for something interesting to happen to take her away from all of her damned paperwork.

… She should have kept her mouth shut because no sooner had those words passed through her lips than a portal had opened up and Lucrezah Lucifer had stepped on through.

“Wha- Lucrezah?! What are you doing here?”

Immediately, Serafall had been able to tell something was wrong. Even though Lucrezah was utterly pristine, not a hair out of place… she knew something was definitely up. Probably because of the very, very scary smile on the Lucifer’s face.

“I know, Serafall.”

Seeing as there were several very big secrets that she’s been keeping from her fellow Satan, Serafall had blanched and immediately begun to backpedal, standing up from her desk and waving her hands as she’d tried to make excuses.

“L-Look Lucrezah, whatever you know, it’s not what it looks like! I was just trying to-!”

“It doesn’t matter. I need you to do your damn job, starting with getting everyone together to cast a mass hypnosis spell over Seoul.”

Serafall’s jaw had dropped open, her mouth going dry almost instantly.

“Um… S-Seoul? Why Seoul?”

Lucrezah had looked at her like she was an idiot.

“Because there’s been a supernatural terrorist attack on Huntrix and K/DA. Oh, and on top of the mass hypnosis we need some illusions done and about two dozen construction crews to rebuild the entire top floor of Huntrix Tower before morning.”

That had caused Serafall’s eyes to bulge and her voice to turn a little shrill.

“What?! What happened to Huntrix and K/DA? What happened to-?!”

But before she could get the words out, Lucrezah had waved a hand through the air, cutting open another tear in space and cutting Serafall’s questioning off at the same time.

“I don’t have time for explanations, Serafall. You fucked up. Big time. Now do your job and clean up your messes. I’ll be dealing with some trash for the next little while.”

And then Lucrezah had stepped through and left Serafall with her mouth agape. Not for long though, not before the Leviathan had quickly begun to scramble to carry out her fellow Satan’s orders. Not because Lucrezah outranked her, though she technically did. Nor because Lucrezah outpowered her, though she definitely did.

No… because she knew she had fucked up… and this was probably the only way to make things right.

An hour later and the reconstruction of Huntrix Tower is well under way, along with the parts of Seoul that were damaged by the top floor of the tower exploding. Glass, chunks of concrete, and more had rained down on Seoul, but fortunately only a handful of lives had been lost.

However, less fortunately… neither Huntrix nor K/DA were anywhere to be seen when Serafall had first arrived an hour ago. Even as she’d directed the construction crews to begin rebuilding the place exactly as it was before, Serafall had begun to despair, wondering if Lucrezah had seriously gone off the deep end or something.

Except… Lucrezah had mentioned a supernatural terrorist attack. If she was responsible for this, she wouldn’t have bothered pointing the finger at anyone else. And also the mention of taking out the trash… well, it painted a certain picture, didn’t it?

It was just… how had this all happened?! Sure, Serafall had known she was kicking over a hornet’s nest when she helped Amadeus steal K/DA’s magical contracts from Millennium Enterprises, but she’d honestly grown sick and tired to being forced to turn a blind eye to K/DA’s predicament… not to mention hiding the true nature of their ‘employment’ from Lucrezah all this time.

So yeah, she’d acted. But she should have had more time! She should have-

“Serafall.”

Letting out a very undignified screech that draws the eyes of more than one devil currently rebuilding Huntrix Tower, Serafall whips around as Grayfia all but materializes right behind her. She just barely manages to avoid launching an attack at the other female devil, even as her heart races in her chest. Fuck, when was the last time she was successfully jump scared?!

“What the fuck, Grayfia! Where did you even come from?!”

Before Grayfia can respond, Serafall whips back around and gestures to everyone else.

“Get back to work, all of you! No lollygagging!”

Only once everyone has rushed to do as they’re told for fear of invoking the Leviathan’s wrath, does Serafall turn back to Grayfia with her hands on her hips and a raised brow. Grayfia just raises her brow right back.

“It doesn’t matter where I came from. Explain what is happening here right now and why you’re here.”

Scoffing, Serafall points an accusatory finger at the other woman.

“I could say the same of you! You should probably know more than me at this point. Answer me this much… is Amadeus still alive at least?!”

Grayfia’s eyes narrow and Serafall has to hold back the urge to gulp.

“Do you really think I would be here wasting my time on words with you if my Master was dead, Serafall Leviathan?”

She’s a Great Satan. She should be above such petty attempts at intimidation, especially from a damn maid! And yet...

"R-Right. Okay, what about Huntrix and K/DA? Are they all still alive?"

Nostrils flaring, Grayfia growls.

"You ask a lot for a woman with the answers I seek.”

Serafall whines.

“Please Grayfia, I just need to know how bad this is! Lucrezah barely told me anything!”

Something flashes in Grayfia’s eyes at that and Serafall blanches. Surely Grayfia and Lucrezah had already run into each other, right?! If they hadn’t though, if Grayfia and Amadeus were still somehow in hiding… but no, after a moment Grayfia just sighs.

“That woman… yes, all of Huntrix and K/DA still draw breath. Now tell me what Lucrezah told you, little that it apparently was.”

Grayfia calling Lucrezah by her name rather than some version of ‘bitch’ or ‘cunt’ or ‘that fucking cunt bitch I’m going to kill’ is definitely enough to send Serafall reeling. It almost sounded like Grayfia didn’t hate Lucrezah’s guts and want nothing more than her head on a platter.

Getting over her shock, Serafall explains what she can.

“Lucrezah showed up in my office and told me about the attack and how we needed to cover it up and fix things. The normal humans of Seoul have already been hypnotized to forget and everything is being set back to rights… save a few casualties. Meanwhile, Lucrezah left me within moments to go ‘deal with some trash’. Do you have any idea what she meant by that?”

Grayfia tilts her head to the side, seeming to consider what to tell Serafall for a long second. Obviously, Serafall really doesn’t like that.

“C’mon Grayfia… I’m on your side here. Yours and your Master’s. Haven’t I proven that by this point?”

“… I’m not so sure you have. You clearly knew more about the gordian knot that was K/DA than you informed us. You helped my Lord steal K/DA from Millennium Enterprises without telling him all the risks associated with his actions.”

Serafall’s mouth opens and closes a couple times at that accusation. Mostly because… well, she can’t exactly refute Grayfia’s words. She had used Amadeus to get what she wanted, namely a free K/DA. But… she’d also had an idea of the sort of mess a free K/DA was going to cause. They should have had more time though!

“Look… even if I had told him everything, would he have really backed down?!”

Grayfia’s eyes narrow.

“Unlikely… but he would have moved forward more informed at least.”

Let it be known that Serafall Leviathan is not one prone to wringing her hands. However, in this case… she does a bit of hand wringing as she whines to Grayfia.

“Please Grayfia… I’m the Satan in charge of Foreign Affairs. I need to know how big of an incident this really is.”

Another long moment passes as Grayfia once again considers what to tell her. However, this time around… she slowly nods.

“Very well. I will tell you… only because I know it will send you spiraling into despair.”

Wait, what-

“Just over an hour ago, mages from Millennium Enterprises, along with ninja from Akali’s ninja clan, Yogwae from Korea aiming to kill Ahri, and even devils of the Old Satan Faction, all attacked Huntrix Tower at the exact same time. Due to the quick thinking of my Master and the swift reaction times of Rumi, we were all able to flee to a place that none of them could follow within moments of their attack.”

Looking around for a moment, Grayfia shrugs.

“Based on the residue and the scent of her Power of Destruction in the air, it would seem after we left that the Lucifer took it upon herself to remove them all. I admit, I did not expect that of her. And if you are telling the truth, she has gone to deal with the problem… at their source. Or rather, sources.”

Serafall’s mouth opens and closes some more as she processes Grayfia’s words. Four different groups had attacked Huntrix Tower… while Lucrezah was in attendance? And all of them were likely dead now at the Lucifer’s hand. And not only that, but Grayfia was likely right and Lucrezah had… oh fuck.

Mountains of paperwork appear in Serafall’s future as she slowly descends to her knees weeping, clutching at Grayfia’s skirts like the maid is going to be able to save her. Of course, Grayfia is uncaring of her plight… after all, like she’d said, she’d only told Serafall in the first place because she knew it would make the Leviathan despair.

As she weeps, Serafall hears Grayfia bark over her head at the construction crews.

“What? Have none of you ever seen a Great Satan driven to tears before?! Well now you have so get back to work!”

Paperwork… there was so much paperwork in her future…
