(Every character depicted in the story below is a consenting legal adult over the age of 18)

A/N: Gabriel makes her choice and we get back to the main cast.

-x-X-x-

… N-No. No… she would be fine. Gabriel was not some newborn angel in need of a safety blanket in order to keep herself in check. She was an Archangel, one of the Four Great Seraphs, and she didn’t need her brother’s orders to hold her back.

Besides, Michael had enough on his plate without worrying about her too and if Gabriel returned and asked him to make it an order, he would definitely worry about her.

… As well, Gabriel could easily imagine situations where she might need to go back and talk to Kai’Sa again after all. So she should… leave the door open, just in case it was necessary for her to return and have another conversation with the young woman. They owed Kai’Sa a lot for how they’d failed her, so it was only right…

With her mind made up, Gabriel continues on her way, leaving her brother firmly behind her as she returns to her other duties. And yet… she can’t quite stop thinking about Amadeus Valefor and how strange he was. What was it about him that was so damn attractive? It didn’t have to do with his physical looks, not purely. No… there was something else…

-x-X-x-

Amadeus sneezes, drawing a few glances in his direction as he wipes his nose and gives them all a reassuring smile.

“Sorry, sorry. I’m fine. Akali, you were saying?”

K/DA’s rapper looks down at the weapons in her hands and huffs. The sickle and dagger don’t look any different than they did the day they manifested in the Demon Realm, still lightly glowing and clearly holding quite a bit of power. The most interesting thing about them, at least in Amadeus’ opinion, is that they don’t look anything like the culture Akali came from.

“These are… my clan’s primary claim to fame. Divine weapons stolen and usurped over the centuries on assassination missions. They are… well, if certain factions had known my clan had these, we would probably have been wiped out ages ago. That’s why even within the clan; they were always referred to as ‘The Sickle and the Dagger’ and nothing else.”

Amadeus arches a brow at the ominous declaration. Zoey, meanwhile, says what they’re all thinking, the Huntrix Lyricist leaning forward with an excited look on her face.

“But you know what they really are, right? Otherwise you wouldn’t be saying all of that!”

Akali huffs, smirking slightly at her fellow rapper’s exuberance. The smirk drops from her face the moment she looks back at the weapons she’s holding though.

“… Yeah. I know. I mean, I am the Clan Head’s firstborn, after all. I know the ancient histories and the clan’s main secrets… like where these really came from.”

Rather than leave them in suspense, Akali holds up the sickle.

“This is the Harpe, a legendary weapon from the Greek side of things. This thing was used to castrate Uranus, decapitate Medusa, and slay the hundred-eyed giant, Argus Panoptes. Not to mention a bunch of other shit. Conceptually, it’s supposed to be able to cut through any defense and is forged out of adamantine.”

Amadeus’ eyes widen alongside everyone else’s. That was certainly a weapon worthy of its name. And it made sense now why it felt… divine.

“The dagger, meanwhile, is Carnwennan.”

She pauses and glances at all of them, but admittedly Amadeus doesn’t recognize the name… nor does anyone else. After a moment, Akali huffs.

“Fair enough, it’s not as popular as say, Excalibur.”

Zoey gasps excitedly.

“Waaaait, you mean-?”

Akali nods.

“Yep. Carnwennan is a legendary dagger said to have been used by King Arthur himself. It’s supposed to be one of the three sacred weapons given to him by God, alongside the spear Rhongomyniad and the sword Excalibur. It has the ability to shroud its wielder in darkness, making them undetectable and allowing them to slip into anywhere without being seen.”

Falling quiet, Akali stares at the weapons while everyone else processes what she’s said. Mira is the one to eventually break the silence.

“That’s a pretty sick weapon combo. Slipping past everyone to cut through anything you want.”

Blinking, Akali looks at Mira… and then chuckles.

“Yes, I suppose it would be wouldn’t it?”

Amadeus arches his brow at that, clearing his throat.

“Would?”

Looking to him, Akali bites her lower lip, hesitating for a moment before explaining.

“… Like I said, these weapons were captured by my clan ages ago. In all the time that we’ve had them, however… they’ve never once been wielded by the same person. It’s too much power and they don’t quite work well together. They aren’t diametrically opposed necessarily, but they’re… well, they’re not friendly with each other either.”

Looking back down at the Harpe and Carnwennan, Akali grows thoughtful.

“My father always said I would be the first of our clan to wield both. I didn’t believe him… and when I found out everyone who had ever tried before me had died horribly in the attempt, I refused. He didn’t like that… so I had to run away. I ran right into Millennium’s shackles in my efforts to escape from his madness.”

Akali lets out a huff of laughter and shakes her head in disbelief.

“And yet… now here I am. Wielding both just like he always said I would. No pain. Not even a hint of discomfort. I can just… handle it, I guess. I don’t get it. I don’t… know how to feel about it, truth be told.”

Amadeus frowns, somewhat understanding what she’s getting at. It sounded like both her clan and her father had extremely high expectations of her. Too high, really. Akali had been running from what she thought was certain death, from a path she hadn’t chosen, that she’d been forced onto.

He could find no fault in her actions, but Akali clearly didn’t see it that way. After all, now she had to question whether it had really been certain death or not. Was she always destined to wield the Harpe and Carnwennan like her father believed?

Unfortunately, she couldn’t even talk to him because…

“And now they’re all dead. The clan’s warriors were wiped out according to the Satan Lucifer. So… I guess I don’t have to worry about them coming after me anymore, even though I’ve taken these…”

Akali huffs, looking less pleased with her words than she maybe should have been. And then Evelynn clears her throat from where she’s stood with her arms crossed across the room.

“The fact that you’re wielding them both now isn’t the only thing that doesn’t make sense, you know. You shouldn’t be able to wield the dagger at all.”

Akali blinks and so does everyone else as they look at her. Evelynn half-unfolds one arm to wave a hand at said weapon in response.

“There’s divine and then there’s divine. The Harpe is Greek… that’s one thing. But Carnwennan… that’s Heaven-type divinity. And Akali is a Reincarnated Devil now. It should be burning her. She shouldn’t even be able to hold it, let alone use it. It’s fucking weird.”

Akali looks down at the dagger in her left hand blankly while everyone mulls over Evelynn’s words. Amadeus has to admit; he doesn’t understand it either. In fact, he knows full well what Evelynn is talking about… devils and the Heavens simply do not mix. At all. For Akali to be able to wield a heavenly weapon given to King Arthur by God (or one of his agents) himself… well, that was strange to say the least.

That said, Amadeus can tell the scrutiny is getting to Akali just a little bit. So he changes the topic, looking over at Kai’Sa instead and offering her an encouraging smile.

“Kai’Sa? How are you feeling? Still… all good?”

Biting her lower lip, Kai’Sa slowly nods. She raises a hand and in the air above her palm, a small spherical void appears. She holds it for a few seconds before collapsing it just as easily.

“Yeah it’s… whatever it is, its contained. Thanks to you.”

Amadeus’ encouraging smile falters just a little bit. Kai’Sa’s Sacred Gear was… extremely powerful. So much so that Amadeus had been forced to risk everything just to use his Clan Trait on it. By reversing Unlock, he’d been able to lock away the majority of her ability, but it had certainly been touch and go for a moment there.

“We must still be careful.”

All eyes turn towards Grayfia. His head maid and lover doesn’t speak up very often unless she believes she has something very important to say, so everyone pays attention as she gestures to Kai’Sa.

“Upon further study, I can say now with some level of certainty that Kai’Sa’s Sacred Gear… it draws upon the Void. Which is another name for the Dimensional Gap separating our three worlds. However, it’s not quite enough to say that it merely separates us… rather, Earth, Heaven, and the Underworld all exist within the Dimensional Gap. It is all encompassing and nobody knows it’s true size or nature, really.”

Looking grave as ever, Grayfia frowns.

“As such, there is no telling what sort of things might… come out of using such a power too freely.”

Kai’Sa bites her lower lip.

“W-Well… I’m not going to abuse it or anything. Hell, I don’t need to use it at all if we’re that worried about it…”

But Grayfia is the first to shake her head at that idea. Amadeus might have said something himself, only for her to beat him to it.

“No. Your Sacred Gear has awakened. It matters little whether you actively use it now or not. And in fact, it would be better for you to use it more often. You cannot just hope to contain it with our Lord’s power… you must learn to control it so that you are not overly reliant on Master Amadeus.”

That’s… not precisely how Amadeus would have put it. In fact, he steps forward and Grayfia immediately lowers her head and steps back, giving him the floor.

“While I do agree with Grayfia that we should focus on helping you learn to control your power properly, Kai’Sa… I don’t want you to do it just because of me or anything like that. It’s not a big deal for me to continue helping you with my Clan Trait. Rather, what I want is for you to do it for your own sake… because you deserve to be able to wield this power of yours freely. Its your power, after all. Not just something that was inside of you… but rather, something that belongs to you.”

Kai’Sa blinks… but slowly nods, looking touched by Amadeus’ words. They share a wordless moment between them, only for it to come to an abrupt end when Evelynn speaks up with a derisive snort.

“Sort of like how we all belong to you now, huh?”

Amadeus winces. How can he not? He still feels a little guilty all things considered. They’d literally had him reincarnate them because of everyone who was after them, only to come back and find Lucrezah had dealt with all of their enemies and there was no more threat to be had.

Unfortunately, reincarnation was permanent. There was no going back to the way things were before now…

“Evelynn!”

Ahri’s voice is a growl as she calls out the other woman’s name, coming to his defense. Both Kai’Sa and Akali look like they might do the same… only for Evelynn to hold up her hands in surrender.

“I wasn’t complaining, was I? Just… stating facts. And I suppose our King should know everything about us, no?”

Evelynn’s eyes dance with wry amusement as she meets Amadeus’ gaze.

“You spent a Bishop on me, after all. So you deserve to know… I’m not some super special hidden weapon like Akali and Kai’Sa turned out to be. I’m not some powerhouse that can throw around the Void or summon a weapon capable of cutting through any defense, I’m afraid. In the end, what you see is what you get… oh and I’m still a political time bomb as well, of course. Considering I’m from the nearly defunct pillar of Clan Gaap.”

There’s a meaningful pause as Evelynn waits for her Clan name to be recognized. Amadeus tilts his head to the side, wracking his brain for the memory, while Grayfia remains quiet. Surely she knows who Clan Gaap are but she’s not speaking up.

Meanwhile…

“-Snrk.”

Evelynn’s head whips around, her eyes narrowing as they land on Zoey. Immediately, Huntrix’s youngest member blanches and waves her hands in front of her apologetically.

“S-Sorry! Sorry, it just came out!”

Evelynn scowls, but Mira just chuckles, coming to her bandmate’s defense.

“Can you really blame her for laughing? Your full name is Evelynn ‘Gaap’? It doesn’t exactly fit your image as a sensual seductress, does it?”

Growling, Evelynn looks like she might be ready to commit violence for a second. Amadeus tenses up to step in and pull them apart… only for the most insane thing to happen. All of the sudden, Evelynn herself starts cackling.

The out of character action causes everyone to go still, even Zoey and Mira staring at the infamously caustic woman currently laughing her ass off. Ironically, Evelynn’s abnormal reaction has a chilling effect on the entire room until she finally calms down enough to wipe the tears from her eyes and shakes her head ruefully.

“It is a rather stupid name, isn’t it?”

Before anything else can be said, however, a phone begins to ring. Specifically Rumi’s. Blinking, the purple-haired half-demon pulls her phone out of her pocket and checks it with a furrowed brow.

“Huh, it’s the front desk.”

She answers a moment later, bringing the phone to her ear and listening to whoever is on the other end. From what Amadeus had heard, they’d had to fire their entire lobby crew because of how easily Gabriel had compromised them. Fortunately, it seems like the new crew are a bit better because after a moment Rumi pulls the phone away and looks… to Ahri.

“Uh, apparently there’s someone called ‘Yasaka’ asking for you downstairs, Ahri?”

The nine-tailed fox pales, her eyes widening.

“Ah… shit.”

I hope she does not want the meeting, but it still happens, just because Yasaka does not take no for an answer, and want to meet her family/problem/friend dont know. As to why the dagger should not work, the explanatione here is dumb. Excalibur was made by the lady of the lake and then given to arthur. the lady of the lake was, if you look into it, a blacksmith and part of the celtic religion, meanign believer into some celtic deity not christian one. That means, that when the swoard is already not supposed to have a natureal effect, why should a dagger have a problem with demons, when the celtic mythology is extremly dark to beginn with, to the point that even the good guys in there have no problems with theft, murder or assasination, not to mention all the stories about what vile sht the fey get up too. So no, there should be no problem with her holding or using the dagger now that she has a stronger body as a devil. The only problem i could see is that the devine weapon is still too strong for her, but that is sealed by amadeus for now.

I'm guessing this could just be a case of the church mugging the legend in a back alley and making it their own.

Chainsword83

My immediate thought is, "is that a FATE crossover that I see upon the horizon?"

Rotaugur

Please no, that universe is a total mess, and they cent even keep their story right in one version, not to mention all the multiple oney they have tried and failed to mesh together. Adding that to any world is problemaic at best, and outright ruins it at worst. Only exeption i know of is when just a part is taken over and then translated to the new universe without anything from the fate one remaining.

Chainsword83

Fair enough, although we're having some good discussion on how it could work on the Discord.

My thought is that it has to do with Amadeus himself. Maybe he is more connected to heaven than Gabriel simply having a feeling. Maybe he is half angel and half devil. It would explain why almost every woman, no matter the power level seems to think he is unnaturally attractive. Also definitely think that Yasaka should be involved from a romantic standpoint.

Stephen Noakes

Dxds lore for the artifacts are a bit different from other medias versions, in DxD king arthurs stuff was empowered by heaven as well. Its why for example excalibur rather then just being an excedingly powerful magical blade was also the 'ultimate' holy blade. It stands to reason his other stuff may have also been empowered in similar ways. Since the gear other then avalon, excalibur and the first blade of arthur isnt normally mentioned, cam maybe taking libertys in coming up with what they can do and if they were tied to heaven at all

Robert Brown

I am all for option 2, because it has us starting this 'meeting' from a position of power especially since yasaka is the one who is requesting the meeting and even came in person. Ahri has no reason to jump at meeting yasaka in this situation especially since she clearly isn't comfortable with the idea of meeting her in the first place. And at least for the time being we are in a superior position(aka the best position we will ever likely be in for this meeting) so I feel giving ahri the choice of setting the time and place of said meeting would help her overcome what ever issues and/or fears she has with meeting her.

Rotaugur

The other weappons of arthur were mentione, but it was said, that there were not especially empowered. The sheath of excalibur only got its special properties, because the swoard leaked/rubbed off, and the sheath absorbed these leftovers. I would say, they are not empowered, if we go withthat logic.

Rotaugur

Characters are fine, they could wlways be found in the dimensional gap, and then kicket to earch by big red because they were in the way. But the entire power system should stay away in my opinion. too much bs for too little benefits.

-Conceptually, it’s supposed to be able to cut through any defensive and Typo: defensive -> defence. Another great chapter!
