A/N: Narcissa receives a visit.
-x-X-x-
Narcissa has to admit to no small amount of frustration at the lack of results she’s produced since making her deal with Harry Hallows. It should have been simple enough, really. Bellatrix was her sister… reaching out, putting forth an invitation for the other witch to visit her had been simple enough.
But either Bellatrix hadn’t gotten the invitation because she was avoiding all of her previous haunts, or she’d correctly deduced that Narcissa was trying to trick her into exposing herself so that Narcissa could in turn betray her to Lord Hallows.
One way or another, Narcissa found herself at an impasse. She couldn’t get Bellatrix to reveal herself to her and everything she’d tried to do to find out who Lady Slytherin was had failed as well. And then, all of the sudden Harry had gone and pissed off Augusta Longbottom with one thing leading to another and him becoming Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot.
Narcissa had lent her power to Augusta during the challenge, of course. She knew Harry didn’t expect her to blow her cover by revealing her true allegiances in that moment. And there was every possibility that by backing up Augusta as Lady Slytherin wanted, she would prove herself a worthy ally and finally receive some form of contact, either from her sister or Lady Slytherin herself.
Not that any of it had mattered. Harry Hallows was absurdly powerful and every witch of the Wizengamot had learned as much yesterday when he’d utterly trounced them all pretty much single handedly. The only two women to side with him were Lady Greengrass and Lady Marchbanks, neither of whom were exactly powerhouses when it came to magic. They might not be weak either, but against everyone else, they shouldn’t have stood a chance.
… Lord Hallows had dominated all of them. Frankly, it was enough to make Narcissa a little wet. He was incredible down on the Wizengamot Podium, his magic matching theirs and then fully overwhelming it. By the time all was said and done, Narcissa was quite… aroused.
Not that she’d had the opportunity to do anything about it. Harry had already upheld their end of the bargain, ensuring through magic that he got her pregnant during their first encounter together. As such, they hadn’t needed to have another… even if a growing part of Narcissa wanted one. The sex itself had been better than anything she’d ever had in her entire life after all, certainly better than what she’d got from her late husband.
But alas, it was-
“Narcissa.”
Narcissa screams, nearly jumping out of her skin as she leaps to her feet, Harry Hallows’ voice literally right beside her.
There’s a distinct ‘pop!’ as her House Elves come to her defense at hearing her screaming, but Harry just waves a hand and they freeze in place, seemingly held in some form of magical stasis.
“Calm yourself, Narcissa. And calm your elves as well.”
Feeling rather embarrassed, Narcissa quickly sends the Malfoy House Elves away when Harry frees them a moment later. Then, she scowls at him, some of her flustered embarrassment turning to frustration and irritation.
“What are you even doing here? My sister is never going to contact me if she finds out we’re working together!”
Of course, now that Harry was here, maybe they could…
“Why do you think I arrived unannounced? I slipped right through your wards, even. The only person who would tell your sister we’re working together… is you. And I assume you have better self-preservation instincts than that.”
Huffing, Narcissa crosses her arms over her chest. Was it bad that him talking down to her wasn’t actually putting any sort of dampener on her arousal?
“… What do you want, Lord Hallows? Or should I say, Chief Warlock Hallows?”
Rolling his eyes, Harry shakes his head.
“I had no desire to become Chief Warlock. Augusta forced my hand. But enough about that. I’m here for the Malfoy Family Safe. Show it to me.”
Narcissa frowns at that, her lips pursing.
“… Very well, right this way. You know I can’t open it though, right? It’s keyed to Malfoy Blood… and doesn’t recognize my marriage into House Malfoy as a viable alternative.”
She’d never really cared about that back in the day. Her husband’s safe was precisely that, just her husband’s safe. She had nothing to do with it in the same way Lucius didn’t care to inspect the contents of her jewelry box or anything on her vanity.
But then Lucius had gone and died and Narcissa had realized the frustrations of not being able to access everything belonging to the family she had married into. Draco had been able to alleviate some of that before his own untimely demise, but the safe remained a sore point in that regard.
“That won’t be an issue.”
Then again, it seems Narcissa has found herself a solution! A slow smile spreads across her face as she leads Harry to her late husband’s study and pulls back the large rug with a flick of her wand, revealing the safe embedded in the floor itself.
Yes, if Harry could break the Longbottom Ancestral Wards and dominate the Wizengamot practically by himself… he could certainly break into Lucius’ old safe, couldn’t he?
Narcissa watches on hungrily as Harry looks down at the safe and pulls out his wand. Truth be told, even the man’s wand radiates power beyond measure… on top of what he himself seems to radiate, now that she knows just how strong he truly is.
Suddenly, with Narcissa having missed whatever Harry had done, the safe spins and comes unlocked, with the door slowly opening up and revealing its contents. Narcissa leans forward to peer inside but mostly stays out of Harry’s way as he kneels down and begins to go through the contents.
It’s clear that he’s looking for something specific… and equally clear from the disgruntled noise he lets out a few moments later that he hasn’t found it.
“Tch.”
When he pulls back, Narcissa arches a brow as he looks to her.
“Did your husband ever show you a diary? It would have been small and black, with golden corners. It also would have been completely blank.”
Narcissa furrows her brow and in her defense, she really does think back to try and consider whether or not Lucius had ever shown her such a thing. As the silence extends onwards, Harry presses her.
“It would have belonged to a ‘T. M. Riddle’, if that helps at all.”
Sensing that he was very invested in this, Narcissa doesn’t make him wait much longer before slowly shaking her head.
“Sorry… I don’t think so. If my husband had such a thing, he never told me about it. What was its importance?”
Harry purses his lips together, looking at her for a long moment consideringly. And then…
“It was the Dark Lord’s diary. Tom Marvolo Riddle was Voldemort’s real name.”
Narcissa’s eyes damn bear bulge out of her skull at that, a gasp of shock leaving her lips. Her husband had been in possession of the Dark Lord’s diary?!
“It was also Voldemort’s first horcrux. The Dark Lord entrusted it to your husband for safekeeping, though I doubt Lucius knew what he had been given.”
That… Narcissa has less of a reaction to. Mostly because she doesn’t know what a horcrux is, other than that it’s probably valuable in some fashion based on context clues. Harry gives her a distinctly unimpressed look after a moment.
“Seriously? A Black Witch and you haven’t even heard of the darkest of magics? For shame.”
Narcissa blushes a little bit at his dry, teasing tone.
“That’s not fair. I was never the most bookish of witches… and I didn’t even really care for dark magic either. It ruins the complexion.”
Just look at her sister. Even before Azkaban, Bellatrix hadn’t been doing very well. Meanwhile, in Narcissa’s handful of visits to see her in the prison itself, Bellatrix had looked worse and worse. And sure, most of that was the dementors… but everyone knew the actual dark magics (not just all of the bullshit banned by the Ministry) did real damage to you if you delved too deep.
“Honestly, it’s probably a credit to you that you don’t know what a horcrux is. But to put it in simple terms… it was a piece of Voldemort’s soul.”
And now they’re right back to Narcissa’s eyes bulging out of her skull. Voldemort had given Lucius a piece of his soul?!
“Like I said, I doubt Lucius knew what he’d been given.”
Okay but… Narcissa fixes Harry with a frown.
“How in the world do you know about it? How do you know my husband even had it in the first place? And where has it gone if it’s not here now?”
Smiling faintly, Harry just shakes his head.
“And those, Narcissa, are the right questions. There’s every possibility I’m wrong… but somehow I know I’m not. Still, I can find out rather easily.”
His wand flicks and Narcissa jolts as the world around them almost seems to… hiccup. And then, a ghostly projection of everything they’re surrounded by appears and begins to rewind, time reversing backwards. Narcissa’s mouth is agape as she watches their own apparitions walk backwards out of the room. And then… weeks and months slip by in mere moments.
There are times when the House Elves show up to keep the study clean, and once or twice over the years where Narcissa herself enters the study in search of this or that. And then…
“Draco.”
Harry pauses the spell he’s casting as they both stare at Draco’s frozen, young form. Her son had died long before he’d come of age or even had the chance to graduate Hogwarts. Narcissa stares at him as he leans over the safe in the floor. Unlike every other moment before this one, the projection of the safe has it open, allowing them to see the ephemeral contents inside along with the actual present contents now.
Peering past Draco’s still figure, Harry hums consideringly for a moment.
“… No diary. It was already gone.”
He swishes his wand and his spell resumes, Draco vanishing from the room just as quickly as they had back at the start. Lucius appears almost immediately after, given that he and Draco had only died two weeks apart. But there’s no emotional impact for Narcissa, not like seeing her son again. Lucius… the two of them had never been partners. Not truly. He was her husband and she was his wife, but the words were just words…
Every time Lucius opens the safe, Harry pauses it and looks inside before continuing his spell when he doesn’t see what he’s looking for. Years pass in the span of minutes like this, with Narcissa watching on in silence as her husband plays his political games, hosting men like Cornelius Fudge in his study and writing out letters and the such.
It’s all just so… Lucius. Until eventually there comes a moment when Harry stops it with Lucius bent over the open safe once more and even Narcissa knows they’ve finally found the right point in time. Why? Because her husband is reaching into the safe with a gloved hand and pulling forth a small black book with golden corners. Exactly what Harry was looking for.
“There you are.”
Harry lets the memory play out normally from there and Narcissa watches as Lucius flicks open the diary for a moment, smirking his telltale smirk, before closing up the safe. He rises to his feet and leaves his study with the diary in hand a moment later.
Narcissa watches him go, half-expecting Harry to follow after him… but instead, Harry is checking something, his eyes glowing.
“August 18th, 1992. As I suspected. But still… this doesn’t make any damn sense.”
She blinks at the exact date, furrowing her brow and trying to figure out why it would matter or be important. But… she can’t think of a single thing.
“What is the significance of this day? What does it mean?”
Looking to her as if just remembering she’s in the room, Harry pauses for a moment before sighing.
“Back in the latter half of 1992, your husband was fighting against something called the ‘Muggle Protection Act’. It was being championed by Albus Dumbledore and his faction, including the late Arthur Weasley. At the same time, the Department of Magical Law Enforcement was conducting raids on pureblood homes searching for anything dark or illegal, which made the diary a huge liability.”
Ah… now that Harry was explaining all of this, Narcissa remembered that time. She remembered Lucius having to work extra hard to pull strings and ensure that their home was not raided by the DMLE. But apparently he hadn’t considered that good enough. Although, the rest of what Harry had said…
“What did Lucius do with the diary?”
Here is where the wizard hesitates. He frowns; his brow furrowed in consternation.
“… That’s something I still need to figure out. I have my suspicions but… it doesn’t make any sense, really. Still, I’m done here for the day. You want me to leave the safe open for you? Or I can tie it to your magical signature if you like.”
Narcissa blinks and looks down at the contents of her late husband’s safe for a long moment.
“… The latter please.”
Harry nods almost absently, his mind clearly elsewhere as he flicks his wand at her and then at the safe. Narcissa gasps as she feels the connection forming. The safe is no longer tied to the Malfoy Bloodline… it’s tied to her bloodline. Which to be fair, any future that House Malfoy even has will come through her so…
“I don’t suppose I could convince you to sneak into Gringotts and do the same thing with the Malfoy Vault, could I?”
Harry shoots her an amused look at that.
“Perhaps later. For now… you’ll just have to make do, Narcissa.”
And with that he’s gone, like he was never there. And Narcissa can only bite her lower lip and rub her thighs together. She wishes he would have stayed longer…

For Harry, meanwhile, sex is the farthest thing from his mind. Instead he’s trying to figure out what the hell is going on. He had worried that Tom’s Diary had been used and now he had confirmation that Lucius had given it to someone to get rid of it. And that someone had almost certainly used the diary and found themselves possessed.
The problem with that was… Harry had met the Ginny Weasley of this universe. Or rather, Ginevra Weasley. He’d even slept with her. He would have detected it if she were secretly harboring the Dark Lord’s soul… right?
