After seeing some amazing art by another artist on there (Megan Giles, who's totally worth following by the way) it hit me that I haven't done simple study sketches in the longest time.

I got so wound up in doing only 'completable' works on here, things I could turn into full paintings, that I've lost that spontaneity that I used to have with doing art. I used to do all kinds of character studies, sketches about cultural items, face sketches, expressions, hair studies, hand studies (gawd, I hate drawing hands so much) and everything in between.

While I'm still working on inking and colouring for some of the painted works I want to do for autumn, as well as a couple commissions, I want to take a day to just.. draw some 'things' without elaborate backgrounds or having to set up 3D cubes all over the place.

I think that might either be a Saturday Morning thing, or maybe a Monday evening thing.. But I need to get back into doing wildly unfinished and gestural study sketches again. Some of the best ideas I had were because I drew some character that just caught on, or sketched something that turned into a whole story.

I think I'll return to my roots and just draw and post instead of touching everything up. I usually post the second or third iteration of linework. Some folks don't realize that, and think I'm just amazing at sketching, but often that's the third layer of quick lines over a really rough sketch or thumbnail beneath.

This might be interesting.. At least, I hope it will be.
