The heroic charge looks familiar, donnit? As previously stated, this scene will revisit what was featured in Sonic #247, but the differences are apparent already. Aesthetically, the attack takes place at night instead of during the day. Moreover, I wanted the depiction of the Genesis Wave to be more elaborate. Only the red activation button was visible in Archie Sonic, but I wanted something more grandiose for Eggman's master plan to alter reality. This is his crowning achievement that will annihilate the prime timeline and I wanted to do it justice.
More importantly, the main difference is that the echidnas are still present instead of being transported to the ether. This causes Sonic to change his attack line-up by leaving Erma and Sealia on the sidelines. Just don't count them out yet. And unlike Sonic #247, I felt it was important NOT to draw Sonic smiling. I believe this was a mistake in Archie Sonic, because any fear he had about facing Mecha Sally was essentially lost from Sonic #236 onwards. It's okay for Sonic to be lighthearted on his own time, but when it comes to rescuing his girlfriend from a terrible fate, his anxiety would outweigh his joviality. He's been having nightmares without her, and Sonic won't rest until Sally is back safe and sound....
