If you wanna do Castlevania-level damage with a whip, try GURPS. You'll likely want to invest some points in some method of quickening your Ready for range changes, but they do decent damage and can take advantage of a lot of tricks and special rules, especially if you're using something like a kusari as your base weapon.

I'd recommend them both to sit back and remember that, even though they are Masters, they are also players in the scene, and it's not their responsability to keep the scene fun, but rather everyone's. I'd also recommend the werewolf try a few different systems. Sadly can't offer similar advice to the gorgon :(

Ok so I legit looked up what the letters for BDSM stood for concretely (via Wikipedia) to make the joke accurate (my brain’s weird don’t question it), and some letters actually do repeat. BD: Bondage and Discipline, DS: Dominance and Submission, SM: Sadism and Masochism. Honest to god surprised me when I found out it repeated and wasn’t like a regular acronym where each letter has only one thing.

Listen. Listen. A d4 may not sound great. But Sentinel on a swashbuckler rogue-fighter does *numbers*. Not to mention that with a 20 Dex score, the defense fighting style, and a shield, you can have an AC of 20 at level 1. Add rogue into the mix and suddenly you go from doing 6-9 (nice) damage a turn to 7-15 at level 2, and only going up from there, all with reach. Obviously not optimized, but the big takeaway is technique can have a big impact on the effectiveness and mileage of your die.

Quick rant, I despise the whip in dnd 5e. I’ve tried about a dozen ways to make it have literally any synergy with any play style and only two had any merit at all. Rogues obviously benefit from a finesse weapon with reach, but the jokes on me because they don’t get proficiency, because of course they don’t. Same with monk, the other class that could make up for its low damage. Meanwhile, every other option is either pointless (martial proficient classes just have better reach options) or just kind of pointless (like blade singer wizard, where they can’t use the play style defining blade cantrips with it because those spells have a reach of 5ft, meaning you can’t use them at the weapons 10ft range). Basically, anyone who would even remotely benefit from it isn’t proficient and anyone who is proficient has very little use case for it. I know that’s realistic, whips aren’t actually weapons after all (with the exception of the urumi swords from southern India but those are more so just bendy swords). And I don’t really mind them not being good weapons. I just hate that at every opportunity they have to be useful there’s some weird rule that blocks it. It would actually be a useful tool for rogues or blade singers, since they can make up for the damage. The only build that I’ve found that really makes use of it is monk. Monks are able to up the damage dice using their martial arts, and the kensei subclass can be proficient. But they could achieve better results with a decent supply of darts, since the damage would remain the same and they have more range (the same applies to rogue, even if they had proficiency). Not to mention that the bonus they get for ranged weapons is arguably just better than the one for melee weapons in most circumstances (the extra ac for melee weapons is good, but it doesn’t matter much if your not in range anyways). Rant over.
