I know it seems a little redundant that Will is a Willow Dryad, but it was intentional because the person who gave him that name is our favorite purple dumbass.

This is an interaction that would happen at the very very beginning of the story so I didn’t think it would give too much away if I shared it with you now. (That’s why there is no background! So I don’t give too much away! Not because I don’t want to draw them hahahaha 😳)

So yes I had this idea that Dryads do not communicate to each other in the same way as other Monmagi do since they spend most of their lives in their natural state— as trees. They communicate in the same way regular trees do, through their interconnected root system. I imagine since they are always joined and linked, there is no need for having individual names. It also means they don’t have a verbal, auditory language.

Unfortunately for Will, Orion is not a very creative guy. At least Will doesn’t seem to mind.....

Since they don't have any kind of verbal language do dryads need to go to school or learn to speak? Do they speak with an accent or mimic people's tendencies at all if they learn it from them?

So the Dryads have basically a collective mind situation in which information and knowledge is easily shared with all dryads. So the first dryads to navigate the world in a humanoid form had to learn verbal language the hard way, but then that knowledge was shared among the rest of the dryads and generations after. When Will takes his humanoid form, he would have a decent understanding of verbal language and how to communicate, but probably not as well as he does at this point in the story. I do think Will would start picking up mannerisms from others at this point!

Cute! I imagine Dryads tend to mimic each other in small ways when they're close. When you and your friends have the same brain....
