The Gorgons (Patreon)

This is the last of the main Monmagi, introducing the gorgons!!

The Gorgons have a lot of customs and beliefs that they follow and are deeply integrated in their society, and a lot of it is based in their physiology.

The blood from the right side of their bodies has life saving properties while the blood from their left side is a deadly poison. This concept of duality is reflected in every part of their life— as you can see in the clothing worn here.

As a rule, the right side is usually dressed in order to show more skin, an easier access to their blood, which showcases their hospitality. The left side is covered completely, usually in many layers, also as a sign of good intentions and trustworthiness.

If a person touches another with an ungloved left hand, to a Gorgon this is seen as an act of hostility and a clear death wish.

The Gorgons are usually very suspicious of other Monmagi and even humans as they don’t believe their blood doesn’t have they same properties.

These guys were really really fun to design! I wanted to do something a little different for the usually gorgon depictions. In some ancient art they are depicted with wings coming out of their head and I thought that would be really interesting to include as well as incorporating different snake species.
