The story's writers came to deeply regret it, especially the way Adric was written. And just like Wil Wheaton a few years later, poor Matthew Waterhouse went through a period of being absolutely despised by an especially passionate fanbase who acted like he alone was responsible for the way his character was written. This may have been an even worse showing by the fans, since this story is the only time that Adric was ever written this way, yet to this day you'll occasionally see jokes about how he hates women and sides with the villain in every story.

"This is Enlightenment. ... And this is Persuasion", "Friendly, I hope", Monarch and the Doctor, "Four to Doomsday" There's a lot of wandering around in these episodes so far - but on the other hand I think it's one of the few stories with a "Choreographer" credit so that's fun for people who are into dance. My mind goes back to Roslyn De Winter who designed the insect movements in "The Web Planet" but this story clearly has a "dance" choreographer. This was Peter's first filmed story. The usual explanation is that they filmed so Peter could get used to his character and would be better prepared for the post-regeneration crisis in "Castrovalva". But, I believe that another script was shelved at the last moment and that "Castrovalva" hadn't been written yet, so that could explain it too. BTW: We find out that Tegan was originally trying to catch a flight on 28 February 1981 - which was the actual date when Part one of Logopolis was broadcast. I am reminded of the 11th Doctor's "The Big Bang" story which was set on the day that it was broadcast. I have been really looking forward to your reaction to Tegan's fashion drawing and the creation of Persuasion and Enlightenment from it. And what a great reaction! Tegan gets a key! Rose had to wait for her 4th story, Martha on her 7th, and Donna on her 4th (or 5th depending on whether she was a full companion in "The Runaway Bride"). Did Amy get ever a key? Clara took several seasons and River was, well, a special case. Lovely to see Burt Kwouk in a Who. He was most famously in the original Pink Panther films and was also in a James Bond. He was a regular in some of the later "Last of the Summer Wine" seasons. But, I remember him as the Commandant in "Tenko" (also staring Louise Jameson - our Leela). Re: Tegan knowing the Aboriginal dialogue. Janet requested that the writer consult with the BBC language department to get the language correct. That's really nice. "Try to look as if you are enjoying yourself. In these situations it is the best form of defense. And it gives me time to think.", The Doctor, "Four to Doomsday" BTW because of the way your full-length reaction videos work (with the content audio), I sometimes get a fraction of a second out-of-sync with the episode sound. But Bigon's CLAP to start the fight gave me a great point to re-sync!

The Doctor soon regrets giving her that key! The wrong one to give it too by a mile!!

I have heard about how Adric was sort of a precursor to Wesley in terms of fan vilification. By extension, I have heard how Matthew predates Wil Wheaton in getting the appalling treatment from the fans. Worse, like you note, Adric only acts as he does in this story only in this story. It’s like how with Wesley, the only real time he was a completely obnoxious brat was The Naked Now, and he’s under the virus of the episode, not to mention he does not “save the day whilst the rest of the adults are complete idiots” nearly as much as his reputation would suggest. I just hate the backlash guys like Wil, Matthew, or Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensen, Kelly Marie Tran, Moses Ingram, and Ahmed Best have had to face. I mean, sure, in the case of the Third Sister, I had my initial issues with the character, which felt like purposeful narrative choices. And Jar Jar, as a kid, I was lukewarm about him, only late in high school, my brief time in college did the character become insufferable, and I never held ill will towards either Moses or Ahmed. It’s like Game of Thrones and/or House of the Messy where the more detested characters, their actors tend to get virulent hate sent their way, and I have the mentality of people should leave them alone. If they happen to hate a specific character, then that’s their call, but don’t take it out on the actors. Or say with Doctor Who how Thirteen is one of my least favorite Doctors due to her being let down by the writing. Jodie didn’t do anything wrong. So, same thing, if people say they have a problem with how Chibnall wrote Thirteen and her era, by all means, have criticism for that. Leave Jodie alone as she was still great despite the less than stellar writing.
