If it seems odd that Rampart talks about Taa’s “attempted assassination,” he appears in a novel set after this time and apparently the crew took that seriously enough to keep it in canon (don’t ask me why, since I highly doubt anyone cares enough about this character to make a fuss about any continuity issue). So that line was shoved in even though it’s extremely obvious he was meant to be dead and someone brought it up late in production.

And it actually would have been a good end to his story. He was always a bootlicker to Palpatine in the films and Clone Wars, and to see him taken out by the very same regime he helped set up, would have been fitting.

Taa was always a corrupt sort, even far back as Valorum’s administration. He even got a rather prominent shot in Phantom Menace. He’s one of the most prominent examples of Palpatine’s saying, “The Republic is not what it once was. The Senate is full of greedy, squabbling, delegates. There is no interest in the common good.” and how Palps really didn’t have to corrupt or brainwash much of anyone in the Senate, he just simply gave them better access and freedom with their corruption and decay. As to why they kept the continuity, it’s very simple. He needed to live so that when approximately eight years later when he did die(?) we keep that hysterical moment of the Emperor and Darth Vader of all people openly speculating and pondering did Taa in fact meet his maker or is it possible that he would somehow return.
