Cid coming through - just - for Omega and the crew here. While I agree with you Jess that you can't fully trust her, she is a good and fun character. As shady as they come - Hondo would love her! The mining carts very much remind me of Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom, and the animations especially, nod to Indy a fair bit. Always like the Pykes designs, very different to a lot of aliens we see in Star Wars. If you have ever watched the A-Team, which is a heavy influence on this show, you'll see that Wrecker is B.A. Baracus, the big toughie frightened of heights (and flying in B.A's case). His scream as the infestation is all around them, is a hoot. Omega showing how caring she is, by not wanting Durand killed; as indeed, someone who cares for their pets, can't be all bad I suppose! We also kind of see that he was born into this life and is trying to make a name for himself. He doesn't come across as evil, and just got in over his head here. Onto 1x14 which is a much juicier episode! Hunter being reluctant to undertake this rescue without further details, as he is looking out for them; however the look from Echo tells him they have to do this. Echo is a bit more old school, and just looks to help other clones when he can, no matter the peril; and he references it later in the episode why its also important to him, as without the Bad Batch and Rex, he would have been stuck in that chamber, being a machine tool for god knows what at this point. Hate that scene with the young clones asking if they'll still become soldiers. Who knows where the hell they are going, but it won't be good. The music in the facility is straight from the Death Star scenes from A New Hope. And the designs of the first 'TK' stormtroopers here are straight from concept artist Ralph McQuarrie for that first film. One of the commandoes training them here, also has yellow tags on his armour, is called Scorch, who was a commando in one of the Star Wars games. He sure took a fair number of stuns to down him!! Gregor is still mainly all there, but showing signs of his mental issues later. With getting amnesia, then being blown up, its going to show at some time. His chip perhaps became defective after his explosion. I don't know how Dee Bradley Baker gets that voice though for him, its remarkable. Gonky comes to save the day, yay! Hunter's design is very much like John Rambo (though he's more heavily inspired by Billy the tracker from Predator), and his fall echoes a scene from the first Rambo movie, where he falls a great distance down a mountain slope (and in fact Sylvestor Stallone broke his arm as he falls into a tree, which is kept in the movie). Kamino getting decommissioned, its not looking good for the natives, especially Lama Su! Now Hunter is with Crosshair, the team have their work cut out to get him back. Can't wait for your finale reaction Jess next week. :)

Two solid episodes to start back with, both in that they are the first ones since your reaction to the Bad Batch teaming up with the Bad Bitch (and her dear recalcitrant little Murderbot) and by extension your break, and the first reactions to view following my seeing the completion of the series. And again, my promise stands that I will say nothing about that until we get to it. The first episode is a touch more self-contained. Great to see the batch more directly work alongside Cid. As you noted, they don’t exactly have much choice. Great too, to see the barflies play their part. Sure, they may not be as iconic as Kuby and Huell, but they are a hoot. A good laugh over you saying about Wrecker, “He’s arguably the loudest of the bunch.” I said, “Sorry, “arguably”? There’s debate concerning that?” The hive was indeed stressful. Likewise, a concern of waking the hive. So long as there’s no Shelob or Aragog involved, I think we’re good in being able to handle things. Especially since we have Tech doing the most, dropping that light bomb, your reaction to that, Jess, I SO adored. It is nice to see Cid showcase a bit of a soft spot for Omega. She is a similar level of neutrality as dear Hondo. And by her actions in wanting to ensure Omega is safe, she shows she does have a heart. An itty-bitty one, but it’s there. Shame that as you say, “I don’t know if I’ll ever fully trust you.” my reply to that being to quote Crowley, “Oh, good God, don’t. Never trust anyone.” Omega showing herself to be a sweetheart, warming your heart is wonderful. I love you sticking by Rex wanting the batch to save Gregor, well done on recognizing him by the way. A common criticism of the season is that Echo does get mildly pushed out of focus. What tempers that for me some is the moments he does get are so excellent that it balances out. Case in point, his insistence on trusting Rex, leading to your beautiful reaction to that moment. It caused the heart to swell, Jess. The mission to save Gregor is great, especially the featuring of John’s original Imperial motifs from so long ago. A surprise to see Scorch, making me say, “Wait, Scorch? Well, goddamn. We got our Delta Squad boys in this show, all right!” It hurts seeing Gregor get shot in the armor; oh, the painful foreshadowing. My heart leapt some seeing your reaction to Hunter’s fall, and subsequently, his capture. I am relieved you have the emotional investment strong enough that you didn’t gripe like a lot of the fans did. Plenty of fans complained that it was a blatant rehash of Grogu getting captured in Mando season two. You did not, Jess, this pleases me. Loved your reactions to Tech refusing to leave Hunter behind until he got ordered away, and I loved your reaction to Crosshair going to see Hunter. Meantime, the Kaminoans are in a tight spot with Rampart, who, by the way, is a rare occasion of me not contesting your displeasure with a villain as the snake is most detestable. Here, he undermines Lama Su. You can tell from the look on his face that Lama Su would very much like to kill Rampart, and probably would have liked to have done so sooner. And nary a tear would have been shed had he followed through on that. But this would be a mistake. Because when Lama Su looks at Rampart, he doesn’t see the man behind him. And the man behind him. And all the men that follow. Forever. You see them now. Yes? The wave that never ends. And Rampart now is seeing to it that doom is on the horizon for Kamino. Winter will come for Kamino. A dreadful thought to leave things on before the two-part season finale. The reactions to which, I have no doubt that I will love, just as I loved these reactions, Jess. They were excellent reactions to jump back into things, thank you.

Cid and Hondo would be like Hondo and Azmorigan I would imagine. I’d pay to see the voice actors all work together. Love the batch complaining about Cid keeping up her habit of leaving out key details on missions. Of course, some of that would make sense. Like Morgan Freeman in Batman Begins notes, if he doesn’t have the full picture, when asked he doesn’t have to lie. Still, I share the batch getting frustrated by Cid in that regard. Yeah, strong Temple of Doom influence, and The A-Team. The Pykes do look cool. Omega is a pure soul. Love seeing Jess love her for it. Yeah, if nothing else, Echo owes Rex for leading the batch in saving him. Immensely emotional when Echo has that scene where he insists on helping Rex out. I knew you’d pick up on John’s original Imperial motifs. Scorch was unexpected, but not unwelcome. I too had assumed either through the amnesia and how he somehow returned that Gregor’s chip is fried. Hunter always feels more Billy than Rambo to me, especially his telling the batch to leave him feeling sort of like Billy’s last stand. I was under the impression that Sylvester Stallone busted up his ribs rather than broke his arm. But I do know that that scream he lets out in that scene is not acting, and I jump every time I see it. I can’t fully relate as I’ve never broken any bones. Though my knee did pop pretty badly at work one time. Miraculously, I didn’t drop like a sack of potatoes, though I did yell, “Argghh, FUCK!!!” and I spent the next day plus not moving much. Yeah, Kamino’s in a tight spot. Can’t wait for next week’s reaction.

If it had been Omega that gets captured, that would have been too much like Grogu (and baby Leia), but this way it easily stands apart enough that I don't mind at all.

Remember when you were wondering (quite understandably!) after first meeting the Bad Batch how they could possibly carry their own show? So it's incredible seeing you now start out one of these talking about how you're completely on board with these characters even apart from the franchise cameos that you could argue this season leaned on a bit desperately to get people interested. First up we have the customary light fun episode before the big three-part finale, and it's fine for what it is, especially giving the villain a surprising amount of depth and sympathy that actually left me really wanting to see more of him. It of course helps that he has such genuine love for his pet, reminiscent of that prison warden from Clone Wars. And next we get the start of the big finale, with Echo and his past finally getting more of a spotlight after his baffling lack of focus so far beyond going undercover as a droid. We see the start of how Gregor would end up hanging out with Rex and Wolf by the time of Rebels, and somehow Dee Bradley Baker comes off almost like he's going through an awkward puberty to portray his growing mental issues. Michele Ang also gets a real chance to shine with her pleading to go back for Hunter. Everything else has been covered well already, so I'll just leave this saying the finale will probably crush you like always.

I remember lots of fans wondering how the batch could carry their own show. Yeah, it’s been lovely seeing the love and investment that Jess has had here. That’s a good description: “A light fun episode”. Really, I found none of the episodes bad, though certainly there are some I enjoyed more than others. Not sure which one ends up last. This contrasts to Clone Wars where my two least favorite arcs were the Beep-boop beep-boop arc and the Jar Jar and Mace Windu Odd Couple adventure. And with Rebels, Iron Squadron stood out as the weakest there, and even then, I found sharing them with Jess, and you guys made them more enjoyable than viewings past. With Bad Batch, it does help that, for the most part, it’s more serialized. I do concede that the first season was a touch reliant on pre-existing characters to get the audience hooked, though when that includes Fennec Shand and Cad Bane, I’m not complaining. Alas, no C-3PO, thus depriving Jess from getting good material with her King. Admittedly, it is hard to figure out how you’d include 3PO in an organic manner.
