As I said on youtube, I concur with your statement of Supernatural was most unkind when you wished for a fun episode, especially when they trick you into possibly thinking otherwise with Charlie involved, which is not only cruel, but also RUDE. I felt especially bad as this came after how you said there was lots of goddamn crying done on your end as you just reacted to something that incited said lots of goddamn crying. I could hear it in your voice how bad it was. And judging by the shade on your nails, I don’t know, but I got a pretty good goddamn idea as to what you refer to, possibly a few ideas. Absurdly fucking good episode, like you said, but insanely viscerally painful. As you note, there are superb parallels between Dean’s struggles with the Mark and Charlie’s predicament with Darth Charlie. Massive credit to Felicia selling her performance as Charlie and Darth Charlie both. We remember the first episode that touched on her backstory with her parents, and we recall Felicia being SO phenomenal in the scene of Charlie expressing her buried trauma, guilt, and perhaps the touch of self-loathing. And now all that is free, and it is relatable, and you noted we all have the darker side of us in us. It’s as the one line goes, “I know the darkness that is eating you up inside and every day we choose to either feed it or fight it.” In Charlie’s case, the beast is the beast which is now able to run free. You love how the episode is not overt with how the parallels are not lost on Dean, especially when Darth Charlie senses the truth, and starts going after him with the painfully accurate statements. For instance, she speaks of being dark and how it sets you free. It does, but it ain’t exactly the tiptoe through the tulips as seen on tv. And her other line, I outright said, “Listen, Darth, you’re speaking to my heart here, and by the way, nice use of Pink Floyd, but this is not the way to go.” One thing I liked is how Sam’s relation to Charlie’s dilemma isn’t explicitly highlighted, but you know he’s reminded of how Gadreel used him to kill Kevin, and how he feels Charlie’s pain in the episode. I do understand why Dean is as easily fooled as he is, after all, he wants to have that faith in Charlie, even if it is Darth Charlie. And even so, I’m still mean when she tricks Dean into letting her have her revenge, I said, “I can’t believe you fell for the oldest trick in the book! What a goof! What’s with you, man? Come on!” Then when she saw through his lie after he had the bad plan of telling her... the plan, and let Dean lead her to Sam and Charlie, I said, “Oh! Oh, look at that, you fell for that too! I can’t believe it, man!” It was sad about the Man of Letters having to let himself first be wounded to summon the Wizard, then how Charlie has to kill him to save herself and the boys. I did get distracted by the Wizard’s appearance, saying, “Is the Wizard into hosting Eyes Wide Shut parties in Emerald City in this day and age?” You feel it in your bones, the pain of the scenes of Dean beating Darth Charlie, and later Dean’s horror at his actions. Your reaction became hard to watch at that part. Then it speaks to Charlie’s character how she forgives Dean, and your reaction to that was great. Likewise, it is great that Sam also never really holds it against Dean, and in the end simply asks if Dean is ok. Which, you said “No.” same as Dean did, me, I said, “I thought not.” after he said that. But it is like Charlie, Sam, and yourself are saying, they will find a way to get Dean through this, and he’ll be right as rain. And yes, we can poke fun at his going overboard with the health kick, but he is trying. I did feel bad for how he tied Sam to the wagon with him. I laughed at his comment on the uselessness of kale. I would feel sorrier for his displeasure of the eggs if not for the fact that though I do like eggs, they disagree with me. Though, Dad and I did use to make a nice egg, meat, and onion quiche in a cast iron, which was very nice, and that always settled well. I don’t blame Dean for going to get a stiff one following the one scene, though there is my feeling somewhat proud of him, that you can see he’s thinking, “I need this drink.” yet is holding off, with a thought, “...I’ll have it when I WANT it, not when I NEED it.” By the way, yes, we have a few actors in this episode that put in previous appearances in Supernatural, to answer your one query. So, though this was a heavy episode, and subsequently, quite a sad reaction, it was very good, and it shows what strong compassion you have, Jess. I appreciated the exceptional reaction, and I hope you gave Rocco a great big hug after two back-to-back emotional reactions. Take care, Jess.
