"Where the winds of restlessness blow, where the fires of greed burn, where hatred chills the blood, here in the Great Mind's Eye, here in the depths of the human heart, here is the Mara.", Chela reading Dojjen's notes, "Snakedance" Sorry about the snakes. I don't like watching people suffer, but I love watching Clasic Who, so I was empathizing with you and loving the story. "Code? Course it's not a code. It's nonsense, pure and simple woolly minded nonsense.", Ambril. "Snakedance" And I really do like John Carson's performance in his role. "Well, what do you think?", ... "Let me look at you. Oh, I am going to be so proud.", Lon wearing that outfit, and Tanha, "Snakedance" Wow, wow, wow! What a look for the ancestral outfit! That's the costume that kept embarrassing poor Martin in the chat-show circuit when they kept bringing up these scenes. I like that they had a creepy "Punch and Judy" puppet show (where they've switched the crocodile for a snake) - because, I suppose, there wasn't enough snake imagery in the show already. BTW: that reminds me of when Eleven destroyed the Ice Governess in "The Snowmen" and said "That's the way to do it!" - Punch's catch-phraase (which he uses in this puppet show too). "But its bite could be deadly.", "Yes, I do know.", Nyssa and the Doctor and a snake, "Snakedance" I was NOT looking forward to seeing your reaction for that scene! "The first temptation is fear. I offer you fear in a handful of dust.", Megaphone Man, "Snakedance" I really like the ceremonial ritual - fear, despair, greed. BTW: the "fear in a handful of dust" phrase comes from (or at least is also in) a poem by T.S. Eliot. "May you never feel the serpent's tooth.", Chela, "Snakedance" And Jess, my wishes are the same - hopefully no more snakes in any future videos of any kind! Your post-reaction discussion was wonderful. "Look at me!", Tegan, "Snakedance"

From the moment he appears in the costume, you can see in his eyes "I am going to MURDER my agent."

Now we have completed the Snakedance arc. I’m proud of you, Jess, for getting through it as well as you could. I don’t blame you on the screaming. I didn’t scream, though there was shared discomfort. Like when we saw the real snakes. Or, well, I don’t know if the certain snakes were real. They LOOKED real, and it was fucking rude of this show to show them in closeups, that’s for goddamn sure. The snakes slithering out of the sleeves and everything with that makes me say that even if I haven’t acquired your phobia, Jess, that part was unsettling. Since I have acquired your phobia, I see that part and I feel food backing up on me, and I haven’t even eaten anything since last evening. Nice to hear you like the color scheme on the one snake. It’s too garish for me. Martin continued to be a delight as Lon. I like the kind words you said about his performance. Bringing us to a big talking point of this story: his infamous costume. You know, I must say, that infamous costume astonishingly got oversold. I have heard so much about how the British talk shows never let poor Martin live it down. When finally seeing it, it was significantly less silly and ridiculous than I should have expected. It is silly, to be sure, yet less so than its reputation would suggest. And it was a delight to me to see you really liked it. I know Martin bristles at thinking about it. I think he might actually appreciate you giving words of positivity about the costume. That puppet show was creepy as sin. Your greatest fear combined with your best friend’s greatest fear, as you said. You can both share the suffering, that’s something. Don’t find puppets creepy myself, but I can understand the fear. And we have the children watching the nightmarish display and they clap quite robotically. Looking back on me as a kid, I don’t think I was ever QUITE that sick. Suddenly, I think my parents might have had it a bit easy, that’s not the most comforting thought though. I know goddamn well that you would not follow in the path of the great snake. Yet you and I are both Slytherin as the day is long. Ironic. Strangely enough, I can still handle the Basilisk in Chamber of Secrets reasonably well enough. The John Williams music might have something to do with helping with that, I’m not sure. The big Tegan scenes were horrible, and I felt so bad for you, Jess. I wanted to give you a hug plenty of times during that scene. Shared feelings of appreciation of the focus on the calming of the mind. The “Well, I just won’t think about that” strategy is horseshit. My Asperger’s, ADD, mild OCD, strong anxiety same as you, combined with my dealings with depression, those stories like the one featured here do resonate, and it is done well, and I can tell with that in mind, you would appreciate the stories more if not for the goddamn snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes? The one snake dead, made me quip, “Ah, SHIT, PETA’s going to have a field day on that one!” I am unable to confirm nor deny about any future snake appearances. They say that the Mara is destroyed. We sure about that? Somehow, Sutekh returned, the Toymaker popped up again after six decades, I would not be surprised to see Maestro again, to say nothing of how the Master is the perennial bad penny. For your sake, Jess, I do hope the Mara is definitely deceased. I do know for a fact that at this time, it is guaranteed that there will be an upcoming reaction before the year is out that has snakes, but that’s not connected to Doctor Who, and we’ll deal with that when we get to it. The words you expressed of really liking Five makes me feel bad that he is in my lower half of ranking the Doctors. Not entirely sure why. Could just be some of the others I like more, and he just unfortunately gets stuck in the lower half. In fairness, I still have yet to figure out where Ncuti’s Doctor would rank; I have to give that more thought. I will say I like how you highlight that since Adric, Five is very determined not to lose anyone like that again. Leads to the very touching scene between him and Tegan. Despite the phobias, a good reaction, that again, I’m proud of you for having gotten through. Hope you had a pleasant day after this. Take care, Jess.

Like I said, strangely enough, I didn’t find the costume as bad as its reputation would suggest. I get Martin’s disliking it. Even so, I mean, he looked good rocking it. If I tried rocking it, it would look nasty, at least he looked good in it.

I love that you're enjoying 5's personality and empathy (much more than I ever noticed), and what a great Tardis team this was. I didn't notice you screaming and shouting over the top, but I'll rewatch your edited version at some point for fun (sorry) ;p

There was an ad for the home release of Kinda featuring new Tegan material, where they seemed to not think through how they were implying the Mara was still in her head.
