Echoing you, Jess. Thank goodness for that! Ophidia of any of the really dangerous sort aren't a problem over here in the UK. Most of our wildlife are relatively tame. - As Al Murray says, "Squirrels aren't going to hunt you down in packs!" The last real predator species in the UK were hunted and wiped out. The historical dates are probably related somewhere. Of course, a phobia of something that is likely to kill you isn't irrational! Phobias about the way something looks, sounds and moves is presumably something more deep-seated and your own is a yikes! Well coped. 👍 My own problem is with dolls. Not mannequins, like the Autons, but some ventriloquist dolls certainly will give me the jitters. Thankfully, the vent dolls in The God Complex were only on screen very briefly and I could deal with it. No real problem. However, those dolls that people morphed into in the doll's house in Night Terrors, NO THANK YOU! The "Please save me from the monsters!" episode is not one I revisit willingly. What's interesting is that my aunt - back in 1915 - was given a doll - of that Victorian sort - and she promptly took it out into the garden, smashed it's head in and left it there. She wasn't offered a replacement. So, when you said of your phobia having varying degrees, that registered with me. I, too, wouldn't have one of those in the house. They give me the creeps. Hearing that, some years ago from my mother, does make me wonder if such phobias of a kind can indeed travel in families? - and, cause-and-effect-wise, how? However, much nicer surprises ahead as we leave this one behind.

The Mara episodes are some of favourites from the 5th Doctor's run. The Mara might return in New Who considering it was mentioned in the most recent episode as apart of the pantheon of Gods...

Thank you for being brave enough to sit through these last two parts and I'm really glad that despite your fear, you took something positive away from this. The concept of finding the still point really stuck with me also. I think you got it spot on with regards to describing it as a sleep paralysis demon. I've had sleep paralysis on many occasions & it is truly horrendous to experience, like a nightmare you can't wake up from somehow seeming to merge with reality. Your reaction was outstanding. I think I can happily say that as far as Classic Who goes, that's it, although on reading up on this, it was mentioned that it was initially intended to be a trilogy of stories but various reasons put paid to them making a final one. There was a third one done as an audio adventure but I haven't heard it. Well I'm hoping the next story makes you feel happier. See you next time!

Well, the American Midwest, serpentine wildlife isn’t a paramount concern outside of going to zoos or other places. I don’t know though; I’ve been seeing some garden snakes lately. Some of them try to get in my house which does NOT do the old ticker any favors. I feel the pain Jess has, even if it is in a mild form. The fear of needles is definitely shared with her. Six and a half years straight of having to take a shot every night will do that to someone. I also have a mild phobia of dogs; I get deeply uncomfortable around dogs. I don’t share the phobia of dolls, but the fear does make sense. Some of those dolls look creepy as sin. Phobias having varying degrees makes sense, given how our brains like to organize and catalogue, it would make sense the brain would rank phobias and determine when and how bad each one would be. I buy the idea that phobias would travel. Fairly positive that’s how Jess’s Ophidiophobia rubbed off on me. When there’s someone you care for, and they have a strong fear, you develop the sharper eye for that and/or concern. You know to pay stricter attention to when the fear could strike so as to avoid the person you care for having to deal with it too much. And brain chemistry being what it is, I think it just takes that, and makes it bleed over to you, so that you yourself have the phobia some so as to share the suffering in solidarity. That’s a thought if nothing else.

That’s something I consistently love with Jess and her reactions. Even when there’s something she doesn’t particularly like and/or something like this which is terrifying, she still takes away positives from it. Shared feelings on the still point. I’ll take your word on the sleep paralysis demon. Never have gone through sleep paralysis, and I never remember my dreams barring say five minutes after I wake up, and then it fades. Rare occasions I do remember snippets. Images really. One thing for sure, if say for sake of argument Jess listened to that audio adventure, she doesn’t have to see any snakes. Though I imagine the sounds would be unpleasant.

I just wouldn't trust either a dog or cat around all my stuff. I was brought up with dogs, first a Border Collie and then a Fox Terrier. The last was a full time nut and that put me off.

I would trust cats. Problem is that I haven’t had the heart to get a new cat since my cat Muffin died twenty years ago. That and I can’t afford a pet, I don’t have the space for a pet, and Mom’s allergic to pet hair anymore, so, there’s that.

That's certainly true but I guess the imagery is still there. I was just re-watching th at last part & it looked like the Doctor took the Great Crystal at the end. If it's been lying around in The Tardis all this time, there's always a danger of it coming up in a future episode. New Who have periodically brought back creatures / villains from Classic Who which struck a chord with the audience at the time, so who knows as they say!
