Thank you for the heads’ up on the week of the delayed reaction. Should be a busy Thursday with Agatha and Daryl and Carol. Best of luck in advance with that, and all the best to you for that weekend, Jess. Now to the season premiere. A solid start. Following your strategy, we’ll discuss Daryl first. Nice to see that Daryl is teaching Laurent the ropes of walker killing. A pity that Losang indicates some measure of disapproval. Which that itself isn’t too bad, namely if there is a concern of Laurent spending too much time with that than other things. But as you note, there is an uncomfortable vibe to it. You mentioned about feeling like Laurent might be exhibiting too much autonomy. The idea sounds possible. And Losang is saying one or two things that causes our eyebrows to resemble the Spock eyebrow. Certainly, shared concern about whatever ceremony that was alluded to. My response was, “This place doesn’t have some sort of Summerisle thing planned, does it?” Further questions about our sympathies are how you and I shared that response to the more overly pacifistic mind set. And I do concur that Losang does raise a few salient points that aren’t unreasonable. I agree with you that the world is often not kind to a pacifistic mindset, more when the world has gone to shit soup. Figured you would be strongly in favor of the rescue. The love story is on the line with saving the “Cuteness Couple” I believe you designated the two lovebirds. And Daryl does the damn thing with the rescue, though not without a face-to-face with Genet. Loved how Daryl was set to just shoot her, and Genet was sneaky-sneaky in escaping, showing that if Daryl really wants to kill her, he’s going to damn well have to work for it. Loved his scene with Isabelle and pondering are the people back home are thinking about him. Cue Carol, like you said, liked that. She was not fucking around with the one group of asshats. Loved Carol, “knowing how to turn it on” as you said, where she mentions about relying on the kindness of strangers. My own comment was after having an expression that matched yours, I noted, “Laying it on a bit thick there, Blanche.” I wouldn’t go so far as to my emotional investment in Ash wasn’t as strong and near immediate as it was with Nat in The Ones Who Live. Still, thus far Ash is striking me as a sweet man. Shared dread and worry that he will die; the dread of that kept at me the whole episode, hence the waiting game has begun on that. He gets you some with the story about his son. Good notes on how Carol isn’t exactly left with plentiful options, thus she kind of needed to lie. She can’t just use your wink-wink, nudge-nudge approach that you say you would have employed. I heard in advance something about Sophia being something that would be touched upon. I presume we’ll get more into that in the episodes to come; save those discussions for later. I adore, Jess, hearing you talk about your beloved Walking Dead characters. Here the way you talked about Carol and how she has been very detached, plays things close to the chest. Melissa really does play it so well. Loved hearing all your thoughts and discussions about Carol in this episode. Again, concern for Ash. I hope we somewhat sidestep the liar revealed trope. Assuming he lives to learn that Carol is lying about Sophia. You question would Carol have convinced him to help if she was honest about looking for Daryl. Maybe he would have agreed to that, maybe he wouldn’t. For now, he seems to be moving forward with the get busy living, or get busy dying mentality, which yielded a strong reaction from you on that part. The mystery is there of how long until Carol and Daryl are reunited. Curious about that myself. And on Carol’s end, there is still that mystery from last season when she spoke to Daryl: There is still the question of who came back, and was or was it not a certain brave man whom you love and adore more than any other character in all of fiction? In any event, I’m here to enjoy the show, and then your wonderful reactions, Jess. Thank you for a most enjoyable reaction as we return to this show.
