The Doctor would never want this kind of immortality. But if one day a guy named Elton wanted to keep getting blowjobs bad enough... No, I'm never letting that go.

Josef Schiltz

Jess, when you've a chance, have a look at the Dalek outtakes for this special! Somewhat hilarious!

High Voltage

“No… not the mind probe”

Graeme Wood

Doctors 4 and 2 would have been the ideal combination for a story, it's such a shame Tom didn't get to do a proper multi Doctor story.

Graeme Wood

Tom Baker declined to appear in the story at a late stage he felt it was too soon after leaving to appear again but he's also not very keen on being seen with other actors who've played the role.

One thing I think we need to do. We need a George Lucas special edition change to this special. Nothing big, we won’t have Greedo shooting first or the one Emperor scream when Luke falls or the absence of Yub Nub or some such shit. I think we just need to make the one change. Just one. The past Doctors need to ask Five, “Just one other question: Is Sesska’s Spa still up and running in the TARDIS?” And once Five confirms that yes, Sesska is still running the spa, you have say One, note, “Jolly good! It wouldn’t be the TARDIS without Sesska’s Spa.” This needs to happen. BBC: Make it so!

James Fish

Thank you for an amazing reaction to this Anniversary special. Jess, have you or anyone noticed that you had a symbol of 3 in your reaction to the Three Doctors and in this story you have a symbol of 5. Pretty amazing given you had no idea what stories you were reacting to in both cases! To your question about which 2 Doctors would make a good on off story, I agree with the above post and think 2 and 4. I think they’d be hilarious together. Tom thought the same when expressing much later regret for not having appeared in this, saying they could have got up to wild shenanigans together! As far as I understand it, Tom had only been away from the part for 2 years and initially agreed to be in it on the basis of his Doctor having the most prominent role, a role Tom still felt very proprietorial about at the time. The plan was to have him be the one who went to the Capitol, get blamed for everything and have to figure things out instead of 5. Then, 2,3,and 5 would have been in The Death Zone, with 1 in the Tardis with Susan & Turlough. The original lineup would have been 2 with Jamie, 3 with the Brigadier & 4 with Sarah Jane Smith. Many people felt/feel that this was unfair of Tom to expect to want to have a more prominent role than the other Doctors & I can’t say I disagree here. Whether his differences with John Nathan-Turner would have had any bearing on his decision, I’m not sure but they have both downplayed the perceived animosity when interviewed. I get it though that some things aren’t always said. The script was hastily re-written after Tom turned the role down & it’s generally thought that the early version no longer exists. From other things I know about it, there was also a plan to include Autons. I guess the budget just wouldn’t stretch to everything they wanted to achieve. Would love to have seen a fight between Daleks & Cybermen, something we had to wait until 10’s era for! If you find any behind the scenes/outtakes footage of this story, there’s a wonderful piece to look out for where 2 offers 3 a Jelly Baby & 3 turns it down saying his mouth will get all gummed up & he won’t be able to deliver his lines, accusing 2 of trying to sabotage his performance! 2’s standing there with a cheeky grin & a twinkle in his eye. They had great chemistry & I think a lot of people commenting on Youtube will say 2 and 3 to your question. I look forward to reading through those. Seeing your reaction to this has brought lots of memories back to & reminds me of why I love this show! See you next time!

Josef Schiltz

Oh yes. I remember that jelly baby business between Jon and Pat. Then, of course, at a convention in Chicago in 1985, there was the escalating water pistol fight. I am pretty sure that Jess would love The Box Of Delights with Pat, which he did not too long after this. Cole Hawlings was almost a Doctor Mark II. The Second Doctor's use of a firework - The 'Galactic Glitter' - in order to illuminate the yeti in the cave - a somewhat dubious practice, carrying a firework in one's pockets! - is - although hazardous - nevertheless appropriate. Pat's first story, Episode One of The Power of the Daleks, was transmitted on Guy Fawkes Night - 5th November 1966. I'm sure that Terrance Dicks put that in as a historic reference. The classic children's memory rhyme that goes, "Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot!"

James Fish

Yes I totally agree, I think Jess would love The Box of Delights, i really enjoyed that when it was first broadcast. I think I have the DVD somewhere. I never made the connection that Power of the Daleks was shown on November 5th, which would have taken place over it's own 4th Anniversary, so I could see Terrance Dicks doing that as a more subtle throwback to Pats era. Plus the Brigadier first met The Doctor during a Yeti story so I think it's really fitting.

Steve McMullan

Have they ever explained how Rassilon went from his deceased state here to regenerating into Timothy Dalton?

Thomas Corp

Not that I immediately recall, though it’s been some time since seeing the older episodes of New Who. Possible such an explanation is there, or elsewhere, just, again, I just don’t recall one offhand.

Steve McMullan

That one has always bugged me for some reason. I mean, this is Doctor Who. How many times has the Master returned without explanation as to how? However, I always felt that this particular return at the very least warranted a throw away line of dialog as to just how he returned.

Thomas Corp

And more recently, we had the whole Sutekh business. Mind you, they did provide at least some explanation as to how he survived and returned, they just were a mite light as to the precise specifics as to how he pulled some of that off. Nothing particularly new for Doctor Who, of course, like you said.

Geordie Joe

The Brigadier knocking out The Master reminded me of Duggan laying out Scaroth. That "I don't want it to end" gave me "I don't want to go" vibes.

James Fish

From what I can make out, it's explained in a Big Finish audio. When The Time War started, he was resserected using a host body so he could lead Gallifrey.

Hamish Steele

There's lots of New Who I know we'd all love to see you rewatch with this classic who context. Things like the 50th or the TV movie or even Power of the Doctor now you've met Tegan. Even seeing you watch 9 and 10 again would be amazing. You might be close to the end but this is timey wimey Doctor Who! You can go anywhere!

Owen Wildish

I just realised something: many who've seen The Five Doctors always talk about the returning Doctors, Companions & foes... yet there's one thing that almost always gets forgotten about, or people fail to notice in this... the return of the floor tile death trap from Death to the Daleks... (or something very much like it).

CTxCB

Even though Doctor Who's end is very slowly coming into picture, there's still a world of Doctor Who through Big Finish. I would happily see you react to the Audio Stories they have. Chronologically, or just, whichever ones take your fancy. Five, Six, Seven and Eight had audio adventures with original actors from the 1990s or 2000s, and in more recent years, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Doctors also have adventures. Plus there's now ones with the 9th and 10th Doctor, and the 13th Doctor Adventures is coming next year. If you don't want it to end when it does, then don't end it.

Josef Schiltz

The Brigadier punching the Master's lights out was his 'Duggan' moment. - City Of Death: Scaroth the Jagaroth and the Inspector Duggan and the most important punch in Earth's history.

Josef Schiltz

Ha! I still have my original Sony tape of Slipback with Colin. Thing is about taping off air broadcasts is that you have to be snippy with turning the tape over! It was really annoying when some cars would pass by and there was an electrical ZZZZZZZZZTTTTT across the sound. Only with some cars, but when they did! Arggh!! Open microphone taping as well, to get the television episodes before we had a video recorder with the built in microphone of the tape recorder right next to the speaker of a spare B+W television in a room away from the road. Ah, the memories!

The Five Doctors was a tour de force by Troughton ❤️

BF Jonny

Jon Pertwee had said in interviews that once he got past initial tensions in the way that Troughton would rework the lines they became great friends and would always play up the bickering when they made appearances together. I would love Troughton and Pertwee along with Nicholas Courtney as the Brig. We sort of got that with the three doctors but a full on spin off or even a feature length episode of just those 3 travelling would have been fantastic
