Yes, I am aware that in the Walking Dead universe, attending to stuff and thangs is very important when you have stuff and thangs to attend to. Hence, it will not be a problem, the delay for the reaction to the next episode. The one thought is trying to figure out on the day am I looking more forward to your reaction to Agatha or am I looking more forward to your reaction to Daryl and Carol. Decisions, decisions. Ah. Cross that bridge when we get to it. Now to this, yes, very intense, well written episode which had a lot to unpack with its themes of faith, doubt, and proof. Following your strategy, we will discuss Carol first. Bit tense when the sneaky-sneaky walkers were sneaky. Answering your one question: The sneaky-sneaky walkers being all sneaky travel at the speed of plot. You know this, Jess. They do a good job of reminding that as a Slytherin, Carol is very keeps things close to the chest when dealing with new people. A feeling that you and I are simpatico with as we are fellow Slytherins. It turns out for good reason given the ladies that Carol and Ash came across. You do understand and sympathize that the decade plus of presumably complete isolation has worn down their sanity. It is quite horrifying what they were planning to do, and the heart does break some for Hannah, both how she doesn’t want to kill Carol, and when she kills Eun, her only companion for years. See, we both made crass comments regarding the two ladies in this episode, or at least the crazier one. Me, when she made the one disturbing proposition, to help process what I just heard, I quipped, “The lady doesn’t even have the goddamn common courtesy to buy the man a drink first. Jesus.” You, you had your comment, and I got blindsided by you saying, “Not the kind of penetration she was hoping for.” I had to pause as I just burst out laughing so hard at that whilst you were apologizing. And since I paused, I went and checked the youtube upload and see you left that in, which makes me laugh even more. I do concur that the acting was so well done. Good catch with Chekov’s Flare Gun. I love how it shows Ash’s inexperience with killing someone living, and how Carol sympathizes with that. They get to France, and she insists he stay behind, which I’m dreading a badly done Liar Revealed payoff. I don’t think the show will do that as badly as I fear, but the dread of that trope is at me. To your one point, and I agree, it is prudent to have Ash stay behind and keep the plane safe. Love his declaration that he’s not leaving without Carol, love that you quite liked that too. It is building wonderful tension with Carol realizing that she, Daryl, and now Ash are pilgrims in an unholy land. Now to Daryl. Again, they have the thing of the people not wanting Daryl to spend so much time teaching Laurent how to fight. Isabelle brings up how there is the concern of a healthy balance, which is why I wouldn’t begrudge Losang his concern, even if we were cautious and paranoid with this group, which we are. Rather sweet when Daryl, Laruent, and Isabelle have their little baseball time. A boy getting to know via proxy the world gone. Which made me depressed thinking about a world with no more days of the Cubs at Wrigley. Not to mention that in this universe, the 2016 World Series never happened. You express what I thought of the set-up. There’s enough plausibility to it that on the surface it seems real. The timing and circumstances, however, were a little too neat, and thus, suspect. We both had the same reaction to the food that was being given to Laurent, and we both had the Admiral Ackbar response to the revelation that it’s a trap. An interesting wrinkle that Losang was not wishing to kill Daryl, and how that command was given by the Lady Macbeth. And she is not wrong that the answer to doubt is not faith, it is proof. Sylvie is one sharp cookie when she followed the thread. Love seeing Fallou and Isabelle in action. The latter’s one kill made me note in approval, “Good shot, Sister.” The revelation of Emile betraying our heroes had me say, “Et tu, Emile?” whilst you were instantly on my mind, Jess. I remember your love of his and Sylvie’s love story; they were the cuteness couple after all. Sympathy, I would say, is a bit of a stretch. Empathy is greatly felt for him, as is sorrow, as yes, you understand given the torment that he went through, he would commit further to his faith in the cause. And as you say, this show is doing a superb job of showcasing the virtues and dangers of faith. As is said in Pirates of the Caribbean, “In faith, there is light enough to see, but darkness enough to blind.” The heart broke, as I could see it did for you as well when Fallou made the valiant effort to save Emile’s soul, and to no avail, as Isabelle did what she had to do. Another big theme that permeates this universe and was given good focus here. Now, I do have some uncertainty about Emile’s death. Hours afterward, I start pondering has Emile been killed. It cuts away before we see Isabelle shoot him. We’re also never shown his body as a matter of fact. And this show is not one to be shy about gore or violence. Though I do also note the artistic choice to have Emile’s death offscreen, and I buy that. There is still some uncertainty. That said, judging by the following scenes, for immediate purposes, far as we can tell, Isabelle shot her home-girl’s love, as you described, right between the eyes. And now, Isabelle is onboard with getting Laurent, leaving with Daryl. Hence the big damn kiss, which I loved your reaction to that. Me, I went, “Oh! Well, ok then! All right!” Ending with Genet torturing Codron; we were both curious if he would show up again. Seems Genet disagrees with a certain ghoulish individual on the opinion that torture doesn’t do shit, though I suspect she’s also just venting a frustration or two. I would be agreeable to Laurent saving himself, or possibly, he meets our heroes halfway with an escape. How that plays out, the waiting game commences, which again, no problem with that by the way, as this reaction will sustain me until then as this reaction was most lovely, Jess, thank you.
