Objectively speaking, yeah, it does perhaps sound weird to say you enjoyed the episode given how heavy and grim it was. Then again, you know me, I’m not one to talk or judge (much anyway,) when people derive pleasure from rather dark pieces of entertainment. Good to hear you liked this one. We start with a rather potent bit of sadness with Len. God did my heart sink, Jess, first when you lit up when they mentioned Len, and then how your face just fell when Sam said Len is dead. The disappointment in your voice was quite palpable on that one. I wanted to see him again too. I even said last week that it would be nice to see him again. Come this episode with Sam announcing his death, I must have had a look of disappointment as I said, “...SHIT.” Can’t even get that mad at Crowley for it, particularly as given Len mentioned struggling to hang on, Crowley may have inadvertently done Len a massive favor. Still stings. I too admire how Sam is trying really hard to avoid killing when he can help it. In the case of the demons, he’s trying to stick with the save the “meat suits”, as they call them, strategy. You said you did not much care for that term. I’m more partial to meatbags myself. And as the one demon points out, it’s not the smartest course of action, yet Sam is trying as hard as he can, and when the chips are down, and/or somebody’s life is on the line/he needs to save Dean, certain bets are off. Really quite liked how you were proud of Sam. Crowley did have a rough go of things. Starting with that dad move of waiting for Amara to sneak back in. I share your love for how Crowley whilst perhaps a mite overconfident, still treats the situation with Amara as a ticking time bomb, and he’s not blindly ignorant to the very real idea that her power will exceed his own, hence he plays his cards accordingly. I’m terrified by how relatable his behaving like a dad was. Especially the light reading that he indulged in, which I so loved the laugh it gave you. Another case of a villain in a parental type of role, and I’m so relating to all of it, the light reading especially, and seeing in Crowley myself if by some miracle I’m ever a dad myself. Reminds me again how this is probably God’s way of trying to tell me that I probably REALLY should not have kids. Mark sold all of that so well. Felt bad for Crowley at the end with the empty nest. And the broken arm, you and I had about the same reaction to that part. I again love how you see both sides of Sam and Dean’s arguments. Dean is right that it would be better to deal with Amara sooner rather than later. The flip side is that, and I agree with Sam when he notes that they don’t know IF Amara CAN be killed, let alone how to do it. I’d mention Death seemed absurdly reluctant to let her out, thus if Death himself is given pause, maybe consider that some. Rather creepy Amara telling Dean about the sort of bond that they have. To little surprise, Dean does not shoot straight at the end by side stepping answers to Castiel’s questions. If I were there, I’d ask, “Perhaps you could be more specific?” Castiel and Sam do have those looks that you caught, loved that you caught that. Amara’s out, and with a montage that had me worried about you with copyright struggles. First of all, good song pick, but that would be tricky editing that for youtube, I would imagine. Bringing us to Castiel. You speak very well about how he’s been trying very hard to avoid going down certain paths. It is now quite the thing how since you now recognize Curtis by name, the wave of disgust that graces your features upon realizing you are about to receive more Metatron nastiness. I do really like how you give Curtis his due whilst expressing how loathsome you find Metatron to be. Because, yeah, Curtis is already fantastic, and he kicked it up a notch in this one. I might be convincing my brother to watch this show, as I have mentioned to him about Curtis being in this show, and he is quite a detestable character. And my brother can readily believe the idea that Curtis would be insanely awesome at playing such a loathsome character, and he sounds curious to see it. Castiel went to town on Metatron, and like you noted, Metatron did help Castiel come to his senses about a thing or two. That and it becomes clear that Metatron welcomes death, and no satisfaction would come from seeing him killed when that is exactly what he wants, despite Metatron going on about pulling himself up by his bootstraps, which made me groan, “What are you giving me with the bootstraps?” And Castiel is more noble than I, as I would have told Metatron regarding his agony of being human, “You don’t want to live with it? Fucking DON’T then.” Nice of Metatron to divulge the information of Amara being God’s sister, which is a minor detail that they never covered in nine years of Sunday School, so that should prove interesting to delve into more. Until then, a most enjoyable reaction, Jess, thanks.
