That was quite an episode, as you say. Daryl is still not ok. Which of us is, as you note. Start with the pleasant surprise that Codron lives still. We both observed that we didn’t actually see him die last week, nor was his body among the dead. Even so, given his You Shall Not Pass moment, his fortunes looked grim. The man is one tough bird. Good on Laurent for vouching for Codron, and Fallou, much though he is initially understandably wary, he lets Codron in. Quite liked how Codron speaks of his sort of divine intervention that he experienced of feeling God watching for the first time in a long time, hence his decision to not kill Laurent. Following that, how he speaks of owning up to his own sins. He also gets me when he got asked what a banana tastes like, and it has been so long, he can’t remember. We got stuck with more Losang, who yes, credit to Joel de la Fuente, his actor, for making him such a detestable villain. He’s not as deliciously evil as Anne as dear Marion was, but the fantastic villain acting is to be applauded. You speak well of a thing that got under both our skin is how Losang projected his interpretation of faith on everyone, which is one of the bigger pet peeves for both of us. I’ve spoken of being raised Catholic, but I’m not pushing onto you that you should view the show with a similar view. Quite the opposite in fact. I welcome your perspective; how it is different than mine. Losang is a man who forces his pious view on others and reacts poorly when they don’t embrace it. For instance: Losang refers Daryl as an apostate, and it is great how you yelled, “SHUT UP!!” in response. Me, the line made me raise my eyebrows, and I quoted Sir Christopher Lee, namely one of his most famous characters, by responding, “A heathen, conceivably, but not, I hope, an unenlightened one.” Leads to MAD RESPECT for Fallou having, as you said, the stand of making clear that Losang does not speak for him. Fallou demonstrating what a true man of faith is. Then how the other people of the community make the noise to cover the escape. And you see that for one time in his life of power and control, Losang feels a twinge of fear for his immortal soul. I loved that whole scene, and now, love your reaction to it. The heart sinks for Daryl having to tell Laurent about Isabelle. I nodded in agreement with Laurent when he speaks of Isabelle being in Heaven. If I were Daryl, I would look up, yell, “You better have given that good woman a special place up there, Lord. Because if you don’t, you’re going to have me on your hands.” Laurent having such guilt that he tries to push Daryl into leaving so he won’t see someone else die because of him. Just like you called, Jess, you’re such a smart gal. Quite delightful to return to the club and see Anna again; you and I both kind of live for her. I catch how she’s genuinely surprised and sorry to hear about Isabelle. Love her moment of sass to Losang. Quick sidenote: The line about Americans not falling for fascists, and the silent yet pointed reaction you had in response, yeah, I had much the same response. That’s all I’m saying about that part. Codron taking on Jacinta was a hell of a fight. Then there is the part of the episode where the Lord gaveth what you wished for. That fight between Daryl and Losang, those two were good. I love how you were more stunned by how Daryl killed Losang, whereas I cheered some. Caving in the man’s skull with a skull that has been undisturbed in catacombs for so long. And Losang was only there in the first place as he was in pursuit of his unholy mission. That is a death of biblical proportions. The Lord works in mysterious ways. No? And Losang dies as he lived: Confutatis maledictis. Flammis acribus addidictis. Shame that Jacinta is not entirely out for the count. Love how when Daryl offers his hand to Codron, Codron hesitates briefly before accepting. Love how Daryl gets Laurent to come around, particularly with telling him that he gets the kid blaming himself. Hell, adults are worse about it. Now to the matter of Ash. Good on Daryl for catching the holes in Carol’s story before she spills. I also don’t think your strategy of Daryl pretending to be Sophia would have worked, though you never know. Quite the scene where the two save Ash. The jump scare of it all with the blood was a sight. It is messy when we get to the culmination of the Liar Revealed business. You get completely Ash being quite furious. I loved your assessment of his reaction. The feelings that Carol has: Carol is feeling guilt and unrepentance in, well, perhaps not in equal measure, but the two feelings are rather insidiously intertwined, and she is left having to reconcile that. And again, your analysis of that is quite wonderful. Now we have the rub of the plane not being able to take four people. I do hear what you’re saying about not wanting Ash to suffer an horrific and tragic death. I will say I’m not wanting that either. Supposing they go that path, I would hope it’s written well. The other rub is that he’s the only one who can fly the plane. They have to wing it, (No pun intended, but pun intended. Like you said. Loved that.) but for now, we play the waiting game for how they do that. Until then, great episode, and your reaction was just amazing, Jess, thank you.
