No problem, Jess. The reaction to the penultimate episode will sustain me until you have the finale reaction uploaded. And that is a spectacular dress by the way. Sorry to hear Rocco suffered the wound, and the heart goes out to the both of you with Rocco having to wear the cone of shame for the first time. Didn’t show, you being tired. This time of year, insomnia’s very bad for me, and it looks nasty on me. You, you at least, look better than I do when that gets bad, so that is something. Talk momentarily about last week’s episode. I still just love how for all the divided opinions on the MCU Endgame onward, (really in general, though the divisiveness has grown more readily apparent post-Endgame) everyone was united in hailing last week’s episode as a singular masterpiece of television. And made all the better by our dear beloved Patti in the center of all the love. In the last week, it came to light that there was the effort to cut back on the dialogue for fear that it would be too much for Patti. Makes a man say, “Pause right there. You have a Broadway QUEEN in your cast, and you worry about her having too much dialogue to contend with?! FUCK! OFF! With that horseshit, you blasphemous heathens!” Respect for Patti for insisting on all that dialogue. Now to the penultimate hour. I understand your concern about not wishing to cry so early, likewise the efforts to blink away the tears. Unfortunately, Jess, mean old Agatha was quite merciless to us in the tears department. There was a strong Ozymandias feeling to the penultimate hour. They hit you with the tears of Alice giving voice to what the fans said of the unfairness of her death. Knew that’d get you. Likewise, the immediate aftermath of Lila’s death gets us all. And we sadly have to accept the fact that Sharon is really most sincerely dead. From the sound of things, the showrunner has intimated that she would rather that we not be prepared to pursue our lines of inquiry about Sharon somehow returning any further, as she thinks that this has gotten too silly. (That’s my last dead parrot reference vis-à-vis Sharon, I promise.) A very emotionally and sexually charged talk between Agatha and Lady Death. I presume that part of Lady Death’s special treatment was guaranteeing that Agatha would die on March 31st. Because, you know, she doesn’t think March 31st exists. Shared adoration of Lady Death cutting through the set. The last trial was quite the set-piece. It is fantastic, in the episode, and your reaction, when Jen learns the truth of her being bound. I cracked up too much over Agatha noting that the patriarchy was very willing to pony up the dough for her services a century ago. Cathartic when Jen gains her magic back, and your reaction was great. It is a hell of a thing when Agatha and William work together with the business of Tommy. Then there is the final confrontation. I knew your heart would go out to the poor, poor people of Westview having their, “Oh, no. Not again.” moment. I think the good people of Westview should let the town be burned down and the ground sown with salt. Fantastic to see your reaction to William coming back. And now! The power of the House of M! Restores the ONE! TRUE! AGATHA! Seeing it happen, you said, “Don’t try me, Girl!” in warning Agatha to not have a repeat of what happened to Alice. Me, I gleefully cackled, and said, “Yeeeeesssss! YEEEESSSSS!!! THE POWER!!!!! MWAH-HA-HA-HA!!!! THE AB-SO-LUTE POWAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!” We do concur on the fierce as fuck outfit change. I honestly love how Agatha was just going to let Lady Death take William. Hell, she was practically halfway to Brazil when she gets hit with William striking her with those pesky FEELINGS, leading to her having the proverbial and literal kiss of death. Then the death that you say you’d be agreeable too. My heart goes out to Not Billy William’s parents. Then came the big reveal. Your reaction to that is worth every fucking penny. I had two responses. First, “Ah, yes! A hex of witchy proportions. Much like your mother’s.” then I was a wiseass, saying “Whoa, whoa, wait. Stop. Don’t tell me. Let me guess. Your favorite coffee mug was manufactured by Kobayashi Porcelain, yes?” And we get the tease about Agatha. (Or is it, Gagatha?) All fantastic stuff that I was perfectly willing to let that sit and simmer and stew for a week, but the MCU fans are such impatient children, so we have the episode after this available. Again, no worries on the delay of the reaction, especially with you mentioning about Rocco, poor thing. I share your overwhelming love for this show, the cast, Kathryn and Patti especially, though they’re all superb. The setting, the story. This has all been so much fun sharing this with you. And you speak as to why you are one of the best people on the planet to share these types of stories. You, per your description, are a very empathetic reactor. You then said sensitive would be more apt. No, you are a very empathetic reactor. You are a very sharp reactor. And above all, you’re kind. And I would have it no other way, Jess. Thank you so very much for the lovely Agatha reaction this Halloween, Jess.

"But I did pretty good, didn't I? I mean, I lived a pretty long time." "You got what everyone gets. No more, no less. You got a lifetime." Alice really is gone, but I'm more okay with it than I expected, thanks to the show openly acknowledging that it was so soon after breaking the curse, and giving meaning to it. A lot like how it turned out the only thing a lot of people needed to get behind Peter Quill again was hearing him just once acknowledge how badly he fucked up punching Thanos. It also helps that Aubrey slips so well into openly playing Death, all the more powerful for coming so soon after her devastating defense of Puerto Ricans. The final trial is in Jim Henson's The Cube, basically, which makes the manner of Jen's resolution quite fitting. Live without the sunlight, love without your heartbeat, I can't live within you, and all she needs to do is declare "You have no power over me." Surprisingly fast, but luckily the true main climax we've been building to all this time definitely earns the bulk of the runtime all on its own. Kathryn and Joe have never been better, and the light countdown gives the whole scene a distinct flavor that ramps up the tension however much you're paying attention to it. I really had no idea which way Agatha would go for most of it, and the outcome we get feels like the best one possible. She looks at Rio, and still loves the skillful way she beat the other girls to the bride's bouquet (I swear, I didn't set out for this to be a whole running thing, but after that poster in Billy's room I'm kind of stuck with it now). Billy asking about her son is the perfectly believable way to get her to make this decision, and Kathryn is incredible at playing the emotional change without any dialogue. It's also now very easy to see why they decided to release these two episodes together, because waiting a week after this one wouldn't have so much been begging to see how things turn out as just confused at how there could possibly be one more full episode. And maybe I'm just a big dummy, but I didn't understand at all what the big reveal was here until the finale spelled it out, so that's another plus for getting them together. And it was a lot of fun to watch the scene again and get the full impact of him noticing Skokie Illinois' Quartet, Redfoot, Guatemala, and Kobayashi. Now on to the ending, and we'll see if it's what I always assumed it would be, Agatha being knocked out by a golf ball and then Olivia Octavius waking up and telling Aunt May about the weird dream she just had.

Good Sandman quote. Shared appreciation about the show acknowledging the tragedy of Alice. Still haven’t seen Guardians 3 yet, and I doubt I’m getting behind Star-Lord again. Mind you, I always thought he was a complete idiot. I’ll save further ranting when we get to that video. Aubrey is on fire lately, yes. Fast though the resolution for Jen is, it’s done well, and it means we arrive at the big climax. The light countdown was a good touch. It says something about how terrific a job the actors and writers did when like you said, you genuinely have no idea how it’s all going to play out. No worries about the running thing you did. Respect for keeping up with it. Sure, the river was deep, but you swam it. (Janet) Plus it is Halloween, so the film is appropriate. MASSIVE appreciation for Kathryn’s silent acting showing the emotional shift. See, I would have been perfectly happy to let the suspense be terrible, thus let it last for a whole week. Understanding the big reveal: Me, I got kind of halfway there before the finale filled in the other pieces of the puzzle, fittingly enough, sounding like Agatha, saying, “I have a theory. But I need more.” It is a lot of fun going back and catching the full scope of the movie reference that of course, we were both going to make a nod to in each of our comments. That even literally crossed my mind when I first saw it, thinking, “Ryan and I are both going to reference this. Aren’t we?” Olivia and Aunt May being in the place of Bob Newhart and Suzanne Pleshette would have been immensely hysterical, that’s for goddamn sure.

I considered just going with the spoof of the scene from Wrongfully Accused, but figured that might have been a bit too niche.

Thomas Corp

I’ve seen the film, so I would have gotten the reference. Probably a good call on thinking that it would have been too niche.

I seriously wonder if the whole thing with Danny Masterson caused them to abruptly write Sharon out (every cast member except Topher Grace wrote letters asking the judge to go easy on him, though Ashton and Mila were the only ones unfortunate enough to have their exact words leaked to the public). No idea if the production timeline fits, but it would certainly help make more sense of that creative decision. I'm always a sucker for turning practical limitations to a creative purpose, and when she cut into the backdrop, I just thought "Did she just...oooooh." Maybe my favorite ever is in the Season 4 finale of Buffy, which is completely a set of surreal dream sequences, and includes one character walking through several of the season's biggest locations in a single shot despite them being nowhere near each other, which was possible because the season's standing sets were just all built in a row.
