Classic Who "The Moonbase" Parts 1&2 Full Reaction! - Google Drive

Comments

Paul Hayes

Thank you again for another great reaction - lovely to finally have the Second Doctor turn up "in person" on your journey! I think a few people down the years have commented that The Moonbase seems like a virtual remake of The Tenth Planet, so you're definitely not alone in that! One technical comment - I know you can't do anything about this and it's not your fault, but this one just wouldn't stay in sync with my UK DVD copy. This isn't a problem I've had with any of your fulls since The Aztecs, so hopefully it won't start cropping up more regularly. Oddly, it seemed to be much more of an issue with the animated episode than the live action one, which I can't really explain unless they somehow came from different sources.

Ian Smith

I've been waiting all week for your reaction to that silhouetted 'Cyberman reveal'. You did not disappoint :)

Paul Hayes

They both seemed out of sync, but oddly the animated one far more so than the regular one. The animated one was much slower than the version on the UK DVD - I had to keep pausing the DVD every few seconds to try and maintain sync.

Jennifer Diaz

I think Jess must be watching either a US-coded DVD or a rip of one for the animated episodes. For some reason, Region 1 (NTSC) DVDs are around 4% slower than Region 2 (PAL) ones. If you're able, you can try downloading the reaction and then speeding it up to 1.04x speed (or conversely, rip your R2 DVD and have it play at 0.96x). It's not perfect, and you will still have to quickly pause and play to resync every minute or so, but it's vastly more watchable this way. As for the live-action eps, they're only about 1% out of sync for some reason.

Yeah I mean there's definitely a speed difference with certain regions. The New Who episodes that I get this season have all had terrible sync issues. They have been a nightmare to edit.

Paul Hayes

Yes, NTSC runs slower because it's 30 frames (or 60 fields) per second, whereas PAL is 25 frames (50 fields). As I say, I had the same issue with The Aztecs reaction, although haven't suffered it with any others - hopefully (and selfishly I know!!) most of the future classic Whos she watches will be UK DVD rips!

Paul Hayes

Thank you for bearing with the sync issues and such for us, Sesska! :)
