Just a little reminder that Kevin being in this condition is all Sam's fault, for coldly leaving him alone all that time in the position the brothers put him in. Here's where you can see most of all why Jared hated the way he was written this season.

I would be hesitant to assign blame to someone for a decision taken due to grief and PTSD, even if it caused someone to suffer. Does Sam after S7 believe himself (whether accurately or not) more capable of saving Kevin than the brothers believe themselves capable of saving Adam?

It was hardly “cold.” Sam hasn’t been anything like okay for a long time by this point. He was ONLY holding it together for Dean. Dean was the one thing allowing him to separate reality from the Hell in his head. When he lost Dean and Cas and Bobby like that….one after the other….did you SEE Sam’s face, when Crowley told him he was truly alone? He couldn’t cope. He simply shut down. That was it, all gone, too much, we’re done, shut down. It happens. Even to the strongest. And given what Sam has survived at this point, he’s proven himself that. It was just one hit too many, when he was already so fragile from most of a season of having Lucifer constantly in his head.
