I really do adore Charlie, but sometimes it gets kind of weird that these writers seem to think being a lesbian means she has to instantly want to bang any woman that comes within 20 feet of her. This is the kind of thing where you really want a representative in the writers room.

Nice to see Charlie again. I’m pleased to see you were likewise happy to see her again. She is delightful. Shame no Kevin and Garth episode. Another time perhaps. Yes, the LARP focus was most enjoyable. That one guy took things a mite too far. At least Carol is getting consistent work with the blood. You would think past a point they’d put newspapers down. You make good points about how things can be a healthy escape provided one doesn’t go off the deep end with it. Using myself as an example, I’m a Sith Lord man, yet you don’t see me orchestrating an Order 66, nor am I shooting lightning from my fingertips, highly agreeable though the latter idea would be. I most enjoyed your enjoyment of Dean getting into the LARPing. I see Ryan’s comment about it being kind of weird of the writing for Charlie in conveying she’s a lesbian by wanting to hook up with as Ryan said, “any woman within twenty feet.” I will concede that stands out some to me as well. But then again, as I see Mark replied, Dean’s not exactly what one would call the resident celibate himself, so it’s not one-sided. Even so, it is a wrinkle that would be nice if it got ironed out. I shook my head at Dean doing the Braveheart act. I commented, “You can’t even at least do the “STAND! Men of the West!” speech?” Thank you for the pleasant and most enjoyable reaction, Jess.

I initially thought the episode must predate the Men of the West speech, but then I realized this show that lasted 15 years started AFTER that movie came out, and now I'm feeling the cold grip of time around my heart.

Return of the King came out when Dean was 24, whereas Braveheart came out when he was 16, a more impressionable age. Plus at that time Sam was still a minor and Dean's dependent, which is likely a time Dean remembers fondly, thus he loves a movie from then. Whereas in 2003, Sam was at Stanford and had been for 2 years, since a few months before Fellowship came out. The whole trilogy would have been painful for Dean to see in theaters, especially given it's about a guy who is entrusted with a horrible burden and is helped to cope by his best friend Sam.
