The biggest connection of all to Prisoner of Zenda is the villain completely getting away at the end. And just like the original book, this was because the story's writer David Fisher was incredibly proud of creating such a dashing, engaging character and had hopes of him becoming a major nemesis on the same level as the Master. Of course, from our current vantage point it's not really a spoiler to say that didn't happen, so we're left with just this one story, but it's a really good showing and you can easily tell why he thought it might. And you really have to bow down to Mary Tamm here, playing not only Romana and the princess but both their robot doubles, and doing each one perfectly so you truly believe they're different characters.
