not one of Robert Holmes' best if i'm honest, he was asked to provide DW's biggest monster yet but how it was realized was a bit of a let down, fun fact although K-9 is absent, his actor is present playing one of the crew

Ryan

Basically the whole crew hated this one. Robert Holmes called it the worst of his stories (he didn't like doing this kind of monster story at all, and even throws in a few lines about how cliched it is) and didn't write for the show again for six years, only coming back shortly before his death. Graham William said Kroll itself was the worst effect of his time with the show (though the model itself isn't too bad, just the split screen that sometimes cuts off the actors' heads). The BBC execs were so unimpressed by the sets that the designer never worked on the show again. And even Mary Tamm called this easily the most miserable time she had on the show, due to the remote and extremely muddy filming location. But it got the highest viewing numbers of the whole Key of Time arc, go figure.

Matthew Beckford

This was a favourite of mine first time round, but I still get excited about seeing the giant squid!
