That green dress with the blue necklace and blue nails looks SOOO good on you!

We are only about 18 months or so away from Rogue One and A New Hope, so Saw is almost there with his extremism. He's been fighting for so long now, a bit like Cham on Ryloth, he's lost his way even if a lot of the time he is right. I always think about Clone Wars and a conversation between Obi-Wan and Anakin when I think of Saw : Anakin (on meeting Tarkin) : "I think we need people like him, this is a war, if we aren't willing to do what it takes to win, we risk losing everything we try to protect.", to which Obi replies : "Unfortunately war tends to distort our point of view, if we sacrifice our (Jedi) code, even for victory, we may lose that which is most important, our honour." He is obviously speaking about the Jedi, but it works for the rest of the partisans here; if they become like the Empire in their methods, then what type of people will govern, when the Empire is defeated? Yeah Rex got the wrong end of the stick, it was the Death Star Klik-Klak was drawing. He's not to know though, and could be forgiven for thinking it was the round canisters. Sabine just HAD to reference that Anakin line about the sand getting everywhere, didn't she!! :P She also gets her own hero scene this episode and more of her theme, which I love. Watching the Ghost take down these TIE Bombers, reminds me, it may look like a slow ship, with it being originally purposed to be a freighter and it is a big old girl; but with the tuning Hera and Chopper have done, its actually faster than TIE's are. It really is a beast of a ship. There is a horrible end to the egg story, which is covered in a comic. Klik-Klak does nurture it to maturity, and it eventually becomes a Queen which would have repopulated Geonosis. Unfortunately the Queen was sterile due to the chemical agents the Empire used to wipe the Geonosians out, meaning that Geonosis will in the end, become a dead world. 3x14 : The probes launched at the start are a reference to the Empire Strikes Back (even down to the musical hints) when Vader launches probes across multiple systems, to find Luke and the others on Hoth. On the droid itself, it has no personality as its been wiped constantly, so can be considered fodder. AP-5 giving Zeb grief right from the off, I would not want to rile Zeb!! Chopper adding to AP-5's jibes doesn't help poor Zeb! Chopper hates other droids, with the exception of AP-5 because he is so like him, and R2 because he recognises another legend! ;) That thing in infiltrator mode is rather terrifying though, when even Chopper can't deal with it! It reminds me a bit of the Commando droids from TCW, though this will be a newer version of those I expect. Any bit of information from the probes would be useful to Thrawn. Even if he didn't directly get info from the droid here, because of the region it was ordered to go to, he can narrow it down to those 90-odd systems. He's tightening the noose. You are in for a real treat Jess with the final third of season 3 here, as all episodes in one way or another from next week, are pretty great, with some being superb 10/10 Star Wars. Next week is a kind of two-parter I think you'll really like, starting with for me the best episode of the season in 3x15.

These reactions were lovely, Jess. Start with the concluding half of the Geonosis two-parter. I’ve been anticipating your reaction to that for some time. I loved your analysis of Saw and his methods. I love how the show never fully condemns Saw and his actions. Like Kanan said, “Considering his past, can’t say I blame him.” Forest Whitaker continues to be amazing as Saw. I love how lots of fans jumped on Saw’s line, “Your methods are SOFT, Jedi! We lost the last war because of YOU!” and defended the Jedi. My own thoughts being that the statement technically isn’t strictly speaking incorrect, oversimplified though the narrative is. After all, the Jedi attempted to arrest Palpatine without any usable evidence, thus giving a legal justification to execute Order 66 and leading to the birth of the first Galactic Empire. Of course, this is less the fault of the Jedi and more the result of the Emperor orchestrating things so magnificently that any actions the Jedi took would result in their destruction. It’s why we love Palps, he always wins, even when he loses. Most humorous to hear you say you second-guessed yourself on the drawing of the Death Star. It is great how the show provides a plausible answer for our heroes. And like you said, the drawing tells us something, but it tells Saw nothing, for now. Dramatic irony. Fucks you every time, doesn’t it? I had a moment of misunderstanding with the Imperial captain. I got excited seeing the Imperial Captain, saying, “Holy shit! Is that Rae Sloane!?” Then the credits say otherwise, and I said, “Oh, wait, no, it’s not Rae Sloane! Goddamn it!” I KNEW you’d love the second episode. LOVE the homage to Empire in the beginning. The recon droid is awesome how it feels like Iron Giant meets Terminator. With the countdown timer from Predator, leading me to let out that bone-chilling laugh from Predator. The look of it is inspired by a famous Ralph McQuarrie illustration of C-3PO. The same illustration that led to Anthony Daniels getting the part as he saw it, from that, instantly had the perfect idea how to play 3PO, and landed the part. Kind of like how Ian McDiarmid saw the make-up for the Emperor, and instantly came up with the perfect voice for good old Sheev. I’m with you LOVING the back-and-forth between AP-5 and Zeb. When you said, “The way I relate to this droid... On a VERY real level!” It’s the same for me, though part of that is like with dear Marvin, there’s relating to the fact that Ap-5 and/or Marvin is a manically depressed robot. Zeb, AP-5, and Chopper got things done. It is such a GREAT moment when Zeb comes up with the rather ingenious plan on how to deal with the droid, saddened though you of course are by any droid’s destruction. Tellingly, even Thrawn concedes the ingenuity that Zeb showcased. Unfortunately, of course, Thrawn is too damn impressive, thus Zeb’s plan only slows our dear Grand Admiral down, rather than stopping him. It’s ok though, as Zeb bought them time they may not have otherwise had. I continue to love that you are now living for Kallus, Jess. Thank you so much for these wonderful reactions.

Good comparison with that conversation from Clone Wars. It does fit the partisans well. Right, with Rex misunderstanding the drawing, it’s narrative perception. I’ve heard he got yelled at by fans, who yelled, “No, Rex! That’s the Death Star!” to which, I note, “I know that, but does HE know that!?” Was Anakin wrong about the sand? He’s not wrong. Yeah, Hera and Chopper made the Ghost into a tough old bird. Concerning the egg, yeah, I heard about that. I knew you’d catch the Empire reference in the opening, particularly the music. I think it’s like Jess said, Zeb and AP-5 might like each other more than they pretend. Though certainly, the events of this episode let them bond. It is the rotten and of course, wonderful thing with Thrawn: it doesn’t matter about the outcome, it would be favorable to his plans one way or another, hence why he even includes Kallus, regardless of how much, a lot or a little, suspicion Thrawn has about Kallus being a stoolie. I’ve heard from fans who read the books way back when. They said that Thrawn’s scene made them so happy as it was exactly the type of scene you’d find in those books, and further showcased how Rebels portrayed Thrawn so perfectly.

Yeah I think here in Rebels we do see Saw at his most ruthless. Obviously there is other media onscreen and I'm sure in books too about his actions, but here we do see that he clearly doesn't care about how he gets the job done whether it be by means fair or foul. I'm not sure I agree with Kanan about his line though about Saw's past. Zeb lost his world, and Ezra and Hera both lost parents to the Empire (Sabine I'll not discuss for obvious reasons) and Kanan himself though he was lost after the fall of the Jedi, never went to the darkside. I suppose it comes down to what Lucas originally said, that its about our choices that define who we are. It is great having Forest here in the series, just to give Saw that extra bite. I wonder why they never brought Rae Sloane into this episode, or at least in the series in general? This episode would have been a perfect opportunity and she's linked to the Kanan and Hera books. Unless they are saving her for the live stuff maybe, which would be cool. Haha yep that timer is pretty much a ripoff from Predator, what a film that was! Our beloved Greef Karga is in it too linking it back to Star Wars, oh and Hunter from the Bad Batch takes his design from BILLY!!!!!! I do like how Zeb in this series isn't treated just as the grunt and has his moments to shine. He's much more than a Wrecker.
