"The Doctor and Drax have been eliminated.", K9, "The Armageddon Factor". The idea that one segment could be a person was suggested by Douglas Adams ("The Pirate Planet") and then used in this story. And it is a disturbing idea that if the situation were left like that, we would have just killed someone off to complete our crystal collection. And we quite liked her. Nice to see Valentine Dyall, and more importantly hear Valentine Dyall's voice, as the Black Guardian. He is best known, to me at least, from his his role(s) in Hitchhiker's (different roles in the different radio and TV versions), but his film credit list goes on and on. And what a voice! But Drax - that was a surprise - a rogue Time Lord with a London accent. He reminds me a bit of Captain Jack in "The Empty Child" (not the accent) knowledgable, useful, but how much should we trust him? The character of Drax was left over from an early script for "The Hand of Fear". Those "Bristol Boys" always seemed to have too much material for any given script. But let's think about K9. I liked the script writing when the controlled K9 approaches the Doctor and and calls him "Doctor" rather than his usual "Master." But I really love K9's little cough before he delivers his line to the Shadow. This story does seem a somewhat disappointing finale to the series arc - collect all the segments and then dispose of them because it is too dangerous to have a collection of them. So, we see Princess Astra return to Atrios and other segments get scattered around the place. But what about the 5th segment from "The Power of Kroll"? Admittedly, it might just reconstitute itself as the High Priest's relic, but it could be a nasty shock for the people there if after rewinding things, Kroll ends up back under the marshes. "This is interesting.", sesskasays.
