"Should we go back inside?", "What? And never know where I'd been for the end of time? I'd never sleep at night!", Romana II and the Doctor, "Destiny of the Daleks" Well, that was a very interesting first few minutes when we see Romana trying out a few bodies - who knew that was possible? This season is script-edited by the great Douglas Adams so there is lots of humor - possibly too much for some people. Exhibit One: Romana's regeneration scene. Another example is the book the Doctor casually picks up to read while he is stuck under the column. BTW: the author, Oolon Colluphid, was a character in Adams' "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Tyssan, the person that tracks Romana and is then captured by the Movellans was played by Tim Barlow. Tim Barlow was deaf as a result of an army accident but was able to act alongside the other actors - as long as someone gave him a visual "action" signal. He later had a medical procedure which gave him partial hearing. The Movellans look really stylish with their neatly contoured white uniforms. As you may remember, they were in "The Pilot". In that episode, however, they looked far less stylish IMHO - with loose-fitted, baggy white outfits. Two incidents in these parts - the requirement to take anti-radiation pills and the idea that collapsing rocks buried TARDIS were ideas repeated from Terry Nation's first two Dalek scripts. "Are you all right?", "I don't know. I can't see all of me.", Romana II and the Doctor, "Destiny of the Daleks"

i don't know what patreon's with more money have said but long story short, Mary Tamn didn't want to return for another season feeling that Romana had degenerated into a scream queen, Lalla Ward had impressed the crew working on Armaggedon Factor and Tom Baker and Mary Tamn suggested she become the new Romana

Mary Tamm had offered to come back for a regeneration scene, but the crew declined and just had it happen offscreen. And it really didn't help that in those pre-Internet days, the writer didn't quite understand the show's mythology and thought regeneration was just something Time Lords could do whenever they wanted, however many times they wanted, meaning the scene has the horrifying implication that Romana is repeatedly committing suicide, and wasting several of her lives, just so the Doctor will approve of her looks. Bella Swan sees this and says "At least I'm not that." Many fans jumped on how The Christmas Invasion introduced into canon that Time Lords have enough residual energy in the first 24 hours after a regeneration to do drastic body alterations to explain this, though it's highly doubtful RTD actually had that in mind.

Yes, K-9 cannot traverse the rockier surfaces, so they find some way to put him out of commission. I personally was always a little sad when they did that. Hence my hatred of quarries, lol. Romana is actually my favourite companion. I love both versions but I started with Lalla, so I have an affection for her. It’s a long story about PBS scheduling why I began with her. I’ll spare you that tedium. I enjoy this story. I’ve come to appreciate Davros over the years

Oh cmon , the Doctor is like a girlfriend in that regeneration scene, lol. It’s not meant to subjugate women. Still a stupid idea, whatever the reason

Maybe females have an edge over the males in terms of form control. Possibly that may be conditional to age and that amount of control wanes as they pass 1000. That's what I thought back in 1979. Echoed later by River's "I'm focusing on a dress size".

Thanks for another great reaction. It's already been explained as to why Mary Tamm left and it will probably be explained many times more when this goes out on YT so I won't reiterate that. I read some time ago that the reason K-9 was not in this story was because they couldn't decide who'd win a fight between him and a Dalek. The rocky terrain probably didn't help either. I do like this story as I remember it well from childhood. I also think they did a fairly good job at recreating the underground city we see in Genesis of The Daleks (and presumably the first Dalek story as well as Evil of the Daleks) in complete ruin. Having said that it was hilariously put forward in a book I read that the only purpose of the black shiny wall where Romana falls in the ep 1 cliffhanger is for the Daleks to burst through it! It also points out that they told her not to move 7 times despite her showing no signs of moving! See you next time!
