This is not Obi Wan's usual animated voice actor James Arnold Taylor; apparently he's great at imitating Ewan's Obi Wan but not so much Alec's. So unfortunately he had to miss this perfect finale between them, with the focus not so much on the fight itself which is over in just three moves, but just the pure emotion of the decades-long rivalry between these two. And Obi is certainly much calmer than I would have been after Maul killed Satine; "Look what I have risen above" indeed. One great animation touch is that Maul was about to hit Obi in the face with his lightsaber handle, just like he did to Qui Gon right before the fatal strike; clearly Obi's been doing a lot of thinking about exactly how to counter that particular move. It's actually been reported that the early ideas for the Obi Wan show involved Maul somehow, which were thankfully jettisoned as that would seem to be impossible without destroying this as the flawless final moment between them however he was brought back, if it wasn't going to just remove the scene from canon entirely. It's just fantastic that Filoni was able to use this show to replace whatever ending he'd planned for them in Clone Wars before its cancellation, and have it work out this well.

Yeah, the focus is definitely on the emotion from the approximately thirty years of the rivalry between Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi. I also can’t say I’d be as sage-like as Obi-Wan is if Maul had killed a woman I loved as much as Obi-Wan loved Satine. Plus, his killing of Qui-Gon who was essentially Obi-Wan's father, or at least his father figure. This is an episode my brother has seen despite not seeing this or Clone Wars in their entirety, and when we saw it, we both caught that of Maul trying to use the same move he used against Qui-Gon on Naboo. I do know that they toyed with the idea of Darth Maul in the Obi-Wan show, and that they got as far as contacting both Ray Park and Sam Witwer. Supposing that the show was longer than the six episodes, I was not strictly speaking opposed to the idea. Reason being that like Darth Vader and Obi-Wan's confrontation on the Death Star never explicitly says Mustafar is their most recent encounter prior, there’s likewise no precise indication given that Maul and Obi-Wan haven’t crossed paths since the unaired four-part arc in Clone Wars and prior to their final confrontation on Tatooine. Of course, the worry would be they’d have to have it written just right, thus I do concede that it is for the best that Maul did not appear on the Obi-Wan show, thus there ended up being no risk of ruining or souring the perfect conclusion to Maul and Obi-Wan's story here on Rebels. Because this truly is a perfect conclusion.
