Douglas Adams did several rewrites to this story, including the Doctor taunting the Daleks' inability to go up stairs. Terry Nation HATED that, seeing the issue as one of those things where the fans occasionally joked about it but still mostly just accepted it in the show itself, until the show actively drew attention to it. Of course, the new series gives this a fix by just having them able to fly.

"You've discovered the recipe for everlasting peace. Congratulations, I'm terribly pleased.", The Doctor, "Destiny of the Daleks" This is weaker than the "Genesis of the Daleks" Davros story, it doesn't have Nyder!, and Davros is a bit more of a caricature of a villian here. Yeah, strap bombs on your soldiers and send them on a suicide mission to wobble up the to enemy ship, chanting encouraging slogans, and detonate the bombs. Michael Wisher had another theatrical commitment so Davros is played here by David Gooderson - but in Wisher's original mask, which didn't fit very well. Also, and it's difficult to criticize here because I couldn't do any better, but Gooderson is a bit shaky as he is driving his Davros base around. I've always been a bit concerned with the layout of the underground area. The Daleks have been drilling from above to get to the level where Davros is. The Doctor finds an alternate route by using another shaft. Ok, that was in the previous parts. But now, the Doctor's group wheel Davros to a room and Romana and Tyssan escape through a window to the outside. The Doctor escapes the same way a few minutes later. But after climbing out of that window they end up at ground level. So how isolated was Davros's level after all if you could just get to it through a window near the ground floor of the ruined area? BTW: one of the slave workers is wearing the cloak and spikey shoulder-pads of the Draconian's costume from "Frontier in Space". It's a bit hard not to see it once you're made aware of it. "Elephants aren't pink.", Tyssan, "Destiny of the Daleks"
