"You're a beautiful woman - probably", The Doctor, "City of Death" This is an outstanding story, with an intriguing intro and an unexpected time twist - I love it. And they visit Paris which is lovely too. The story had enhanced ratings due to ITV not transmitting because of a strike - stand by for Classic Who repercussions later in the season. And being set it Paris, it was the first Classic Who show to have location filming in a foreign country. I love Dudley Simpson's music as our heros enjoy wandering around Paris. It's credited as being written by "David Agnew" - but it is actually by the script editor, Douglas Adams and the Producer, based on a script by David Fisher (who had written "The Stones of Blood", "The Androids of Tara"). Fisher was unable make the substantial rewrites the production team had requested so he agreed that they could make the changes themselves. Douglas Adams joined them in Paris for the filming - but he was there mainly for a pub crawl around Europe. (BTW: Douglas Adams has a cameo as someone in the background having a drink at the bar.) Lalla's costume ... hm. She decided to wear a schoolgirl outfit thinking that it would cheer up little girls who hated wearing their school uniforms. She was ... unprepared for the other reaction of an adult woman wearing a schoolgirl outfit. It's nice to see Julian Glover again - he was King Richard way back in the 1965 story "The Crusade". And he was in "The Empire Strikes Back" and the third "Indiana Jones" movie etc. A big catch for Classic Who. I love Professor Kerensky - played by David Graham - one of the Dalek voice actors from the earliest days. He also the bartender who was shot by Johnny Ringo in "The Gunfighters". Tom Chadbon, as Duggan, is good fun thumping people and breaking through walls. He has a long list of credits on IMDB. Other than playing Duggan here, I remember his role in an episode of "Blake's 7". I like the callback to a "Scientific Advisor" when Duggan hits the sonic screwdriver against the door and the sonic starts working. And the "reverse the polarity" callback is nice too. What a great story! "My dear, I don't think he's as stupid as he seems." "My dear, nobody could be as stupid as he seems.", The Countess and the Count, "City of Death"

Glover may be the actor who's appeared in the most big franchises of anyone: Doctor Who, James Bond, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones...

One of the most beloved stories of the entire series, with one of the most witty scripts that Douglas Adams ever wrote for anything. And it's especially cool that the cliffhangers aren't the usual "How will the Doctor get out of this," and instead are "Here's a new piece of the story that totally changes what you thought was going on." And I very much appreciate how they took the opportunity for so many long, lingering shots of Paris locations without worrying about keeping the story moving, though the downside is that much of it was done illegally without getting a filming permit so they were stuck with whatever they managed to get in a single take before they had to run.

There is a great story told by Tom which came from this when he had to frantically rattle the doors to the building the Tardis was supposedly 'parked' in. He set the burglar alarm off lol! I can't say enough how much I love this story, so many iconically memorable lines! See you next time!
